Mangaluru: Union minister says Kambala bill is with President, awaiting approval

Mangaluru, Jun 8: Minister of state for law and justice and information technology, P P Choudhary, said that the ammendment bill to Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act as revised and approved by the state government that had been forwarded for President's nod, was forwarded for favourable action by the central government to the President three days back. Speaking to media persons here in the city on Wednesday June 7, he identified Kambala as a great folk sport of coastal Karnataka having cultural dimensions. He hoped that the revised bill will get the signature of the President soon.

The minister asked local member of parliament, Nalin Kumar Kateel, to submit a proposal to set up National Institute of Electronics and Communication Technology (NIELIT), which are currently functioning only in a few select cities, here. He said these institutions help the country to come up globally.

He noted that Kateel has already sought an IT Park for the city. He said that the central government will extend full cooperation for the park if the state is prepared to provide suitable land. He stated that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has evinced lot of interest to set up such parks all over the country.

Choudhary said that basic infrastructure is being given lot of importance in the country and India is moving ahead in technology. He however felt the need to restrict import of electronic goods, which is three times the production capacity. He felt that 'Make in India' concept will help in increasing production.

On the issue of restrictions placed by central government on sale of cows and their transportation, Choudhary said that a new bill was brought about as earlier rules were not being followed properly. He blamed vested interests for unncecessarily misguiding people and creating controversies.
