Kasargod, Jun 9: A  vehicle that was engaged in carrying sand illegally at Mogral Koppala in the district tried to flee after  some police were sighted. In this attempt, the vehicle hit a protective wall, resulting in serious  injuries to its driver, Rauf (26) a resident of Kambar.

After information that sand was being extracted from Mogral Koppala rivulet without authorization spread, local citizens and police have been closely monitoring developments. On Wednesday January 7 night, Kumble police got information that sand was being illegally transported in a vehicle. Immediately, police personnel raided the spot under the leadership of police sub-inspector.

Rauf, upon seeing the police, tried to flee.   In this effort, the vehicle moved on the reverse, hitting a rock and then sudenly surged ahead and hit a protective wall opposite it. Rauf, who was seriously injured, was brought out of the vehicle by the police and transported to a hospital at Mangaluru. The police personnel stated that another persons who was in the vehicle fled during this raid.

At the same same time, Badiadka police arrested three and took into  possession two trucks and two cars from near Perla check post on Wednesday night for illegal sand transportation. The arrested accused happen to be Hameed (35) from Chettunguli, Manoj (32) from Perumbala and Abubakker Siddique (30), a resident of Katukukke. Two cars which were used as escort for the sand vehicles, were also confiscated.
