Mangaluru: Hit by car, man trying to cross highway killed

Mangaluru, Jun 10: A senior citizen trying to cross national highway 66 near Karnad Industrial Area, Mulky  in the taluk on Friday June 9 afternoon, was knocked down by a car. The man breathed his last when being taken to hospital for treatment.

The victim was Chandra (75), resident of Karnad Sadashiva Rao Nagar, Mulky. Chandra was trying to cross the highway along with his son from eastern side of the road to the west. He had crossed half  the road and was waiting on the divider in the middle to cross the other half, when a car which came from the direction of Udupi hit him after the car driver lost control over the vehicle. Chandra, who was thrown some distance a way due to the impact of the accident, suffered critical injuries to his head, legs, chest and other body parts.

Chandra was being taken to  the government hospital at Mulky for emergency  treatment when he passed away. A case about this accident was registered  in the city (north) traffic police station and investigation has been undertaken.
