Bengaluru: Roopa at loggerheads with superintendent - faces hostility at prison

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Jul 16: The report submitted by DIG (Prisons), Roopa, mentions about an office room provided to AIDMK general secretary, V K Sasikala, and a cook provided to her at her cell. Sasikala often holds court with visitors for which purpose four additional chairs have been provided, Roopa has said. The report also mentions that this office is adjacent to the office of a female jail superintendent.

In the case of Sasikala, rules were routinely violated relating to number of visitors, timings etc. The report also says that similar facilities have been extended to some high profile inmates of the prison.

Roopa and director general of police (prisons), Satyanarayana Rao, visited the prison separately on Saturday July 15, a few hours apart. In a separate report, Roopa has accused two jail staffers of inciting some jail inmates to raise slogans and hold protest against her during her visit. She has sought strict action against them. She reportedly also found efforts to destroy evidence by way of dismantling of facilities, breaking of CCTV cameras and making some cameras dysfunctional. It is said that Roopa had got certain footage recorded through video camera and asked one of the jail staff to forward the same to her. When questioned later, the said employee reportedly said she was asked not to send the recording, much of which has been found to have been deleted now.

In the meanwhile, chief jail superintendent Krishnakumar, has filed a complaint with the DGP against Roopa. During the period Roopa visited the prison, it is learnt, there was a verbal spat between her and Krishnakumar. Roopa has endorsed copies of her second report, original of which was addressed to Satyanarayana Rao, to director general of police R K Dutta, chief secretary, home secretary, and head of Anti Corruption Bureau.

It is said that the government is considering the option of transferring Roopa out of the prison department as she continues to give vent to her opinions in social websites even after having been warned against airing her view on irregularities in prisons in public.

Money talks.............Money makes the world go round..........Ethics do not seem to have their rightful place in the present day corrupt, selfish, 'faltu', 'feku' world. We seem to have left our conscience far, far behind.

Indeed, it's a bad, mad world.

I see that the bearings of Sasikala have gone loose. She has gone insane. The only way to teach her come to her senses is she should be flung far away in a most remote corner of our country and TOTALLY out of the media glare (I am sure that a country like ours can make one ... we do not seem to have any such shortage of jails) and should be made to starve out of hunger (not power hungry).

Probably she hailed from an affluent family background with a golden spoon in her mouth that made her live up with this.

There is no difference to this Sasikala .. whether at her home or in the jail ... she is ruling the roost.

Why should a separate UNDESERVING facility be granted to Sasikala in the first place? .

Our country is gone to the dogs. If people of Karnataka or the highly educated city of Bangalore care for the atrocity against DIG Roopa, take a procession, right to the doorstep of Siddhu, let him have a time based enquiry and ask him to reveal the truth. We are talking of a smooth criminal Sasikala, who is convicted and is capable of going to any extent to get her way. If Siddhu is against Roopa, its obvious, a parcel has with all probability reached high command. Our system is corrupt beyond repair. Only PM Modi can change the outlook of our country.

One Look at Ms Roopa and you are convinced she has no special reason to gain anything by speaking the TRUTH which hurts. All know that going to Jail in Karnataka is preferred by many in VIP . Corruption is truly DEEP rooted in the system and in fact a way of life .

An honest officer on the other hand is sadly harassed and her words are not heard.

And why should there be another probe ?

Take Mr H D Kumaraswamy's advice which said that both Mr Satyanarayana Rao and Ms Roopa be asked to proceed on leave till such time an independent inquiry is conducted and report placed before the government. It is surprising that such allegations are made against officials who are due to retire that results in all their benefits blocked till allegations are cleared. The guilty should be punished without mercy. Both should be restricted from giving personal interviews to the press. All reports submitted by Ms Roopa or others should be kept before the independent inquiry team.

Corruption at the jails, in Mangalore jail if anyone wants to visit a convict the amount being begged by the staff in the jail is lots. Can imagine the bribe asked by the jail staff in Bangalore. The bribe amount collected by the jail staff is immense and it is a huge mafia. Let it be any Government, any Chief Minister or Home Minister (state).

    Mr Noronha
There is nothing wrong in Roopa's action.
If jail rules are violated she has an responsibility to complain.
Remaining as a silent spectator is as good as involving in the corrupt practice.
The higher officers may be involved in so many illegal things and lower officers may be scarred to reveal because of fear and threat of losing job/promotions/transfer etc.
DIG Roopa's bold action is highly appreciable we need honest offices of her calibre.
