Bengaluru: Rs 300 crore undisclosed income found in I-T raids; unfazed DKS back to hosting MLAs

Bengaluru, Aug 6 (Deccan Chronicle): The Directorate of Income Tax (Investigation), Karnataka & Goa, have reportedly unearthed huge amount of undeclared income worth over Rs 300 crore from several premises of the Energy Minister DK Shivakumar and his family members during the search and seizure operations at 64 locations in Delhi and Karnataka.

Out of the over Rs 300 crore alleged undeclared income over Rs 100 crore reportedly belongs to Shivakumar and his family members, highly placed sources told this newspaper on condition of anonymity.

The DGIT has also seized undeclared assets including jewellery worth Rs 15 crore and huge stash of incriminating documents during the operations, which commenced on Wednesday early morning and concluded on Saturday evening.

“The balance undeclared income of over Rs 200 crores, which was unearthed by the Income Tax sleuths, belongs to various business groups including a top real estate group and a transport firm, among others, where he allegedly has business investments,” said the sources.

The DGIT will take time to examine the documents to conclude the extent of his undeclared income, which were seized during the three day search operations. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is likely to step in, to examine if there was a case of money laundering that attracted violation of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).

Unfazed DKS is back hosting Gujarat MLAs

DHNS

The nearly 72-hour long Income Tax raid on Energy Minister D K Shivakumar’s premises ended on Saturday morning.

An undeterred Shivakumar resumed charge of Gujarat Congress MLAs lodged in a resort outside Bengaluru to prevent poaching by the BJP, endorsing his loyalty to his party.

Clad in a crisp cream-coloured shirt and a white dhoti, Shivakumar exuded confidence as he led the Gujarat MLAs on their visit to Raj Bhavan, where they met Governor Vajubhai Vala and later, took them around Vidhana Soudha briefly. He joined the MLAs in singing the popular devotional song Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue on the Vidhana Soudha premises. They posed in front of the Vidhana Soudha waving at the cameras, before boarding two buses back to the resort.

The Congress wants to exercise caution with reference to the I-T raids, lest it is projected as defending corruption. The party high command has reportedly asked state leaders to be guarded while defending Shivakumar, with an instruction that they must question only the timing of the raids. No Congress leader was with Shivakumar.

“This is not the time for me to say anything,” was Shivakumar’s initial reaction to reporters after emerging from his Sadashivanagar home, where he was confined during the raid since Wednesday. Refusing to divulge details despite repeated queries, Shivakumar said he would “explain everything” after getting copies of the panchanama.

“I’m not the kind of person who violates the law and the Constitution... the truth will come out,” he said. “All our leaders across the country have stood by me during this crisis. I have not and will not do anything to embarrass the party.” “I am no fool”

In a cryptic yet political remark, Shivakumar said, “I hail from a village, but I’m not a fool. I came to Bengaluru to do politics.” He told reporters that he would first visit a deity “that I hold faith in.” He reportedly visited the Nonavinakere Ajjayya temple before heading to the resort in Bidadi where 43 Gujarat MLAs are camping.

Health and Family Welfare Minister K R Ramesh Kumar, who had a hushed conversation with Shivakumar on the Soudha stairs, said the raid “erodes public confidence in the Income Tax department.” He pointed out that all politicians, including Shivakumar, declare their assets before contesting elections. “Why is it that nobody checks where and how the assets come from,” he asked. “Look at the vulgar display of wealth during marriages on Palace Grounds or the educational institutions that fleece money or corporates - why are they not touched? Selective targetting of people leads to loss of public trust in government agencies,” he warned.

what is DKS trying to prove? dont think that people of karnataka are fools. you are corrupt and at the end you are facing consequences for that. people are not with you. of course few chamcha might be screaming and shouting just to show off now. that will be only for few days till you have capacity to feed them with your black money. then they also will be gone

Once he litigates these figures it might fall less than 30 crores or even vanish !!!

Instead if you raid the IT persons who raided DKS, their family members, their contacts in mobile, their chelas, assistants etc you can get more black money than this.

It is a well known fact. All know where the black money gets generated, rotates and gets distributed. Then again gets detected and gets re written in figures.

Just target hospitals (surprisingly there is no GST !!!) and the so called "white collar professionals" like Doctors, Advocates, Engineers, CA's etc who hate giving bills and need payment mostly in cash.

Also target meter interest guys who deal in cash and live life king size with blood money. IT department is not bothered about them.

Also raid medical, engineering, professional colleges during admission for cash laundering for payment seats. You get more black money than this.

Good luck on proper job rather than biased which hunting.

I feel so sorry for the people. I just can't understand how impervious the people can be towards corruption. A minister has been caught concealing so much wealth and in the normal course, everybody should have condemned this man in one voice. Everybody should have risen against this reprehensible act. But here with the exception of one or two, most of the people are blaming the opposite political parties. The Congress supporters are blaming the BJP and vice versa. Here it is not a tussle between the two parties. Why don't we understand that the money looted belongs to the state and the country, it belongs to you and me and whoever does that irrespective of which party he belongs to, should be castigated. As long as we take such things as just time pass, I am afraid the Yeddyurappas, the Shobhas and the Shivkumars are going to get richer and the poor will continue to remain poor. This is going to be our fate and even God will not be able to change that. I reiterate we get what we deserve.

Go and try to buy agricultural land in karnataka, theres a law which says that the income should not be over 25 lacs PA. All these are applicable only for normal citizens while these guys are buying land all over the place. If you save 50k per month today, it's 6 lacs PA, and if you did it for 20 years you barely make it to 1.2 crores and here we are talking about 15 crores just in jewellery. Here DKS was caught red handed with crores of rupees and Pappu chelas trying to support him .

Truth will come out like as how it happened to all cases of 2002. If for you Indira is dictator for me Modi is. If you can have your opinion I can have mine. Okay, have it your way. Pronounce him guilty, hang him. Shut down all the Courts in India and shut down all investigation agencies/institutions forever. Let BJP and their supporters do their dictatorship which is anyway what they are wanting to do. Happy ??? A democracy cannot survive if the government and their supporters function like a banana republic with Kangaroo court type of justice system.

DKS is also a businessman not just a politician. Having huge wealth is not a crime provided it is accounted for, acquired legally and all taxes are properly paid. Do you know Ambani's and Adani's wealth ? So will you call them criminals just for having huge wealth ? for that we need to investigate how they acquired their assets. Any illegal sweet deals or quid pro quo arrangements were done ? Then only will it be known.

I will ask you why not all those involved with lynching people be hanged without trial ? Why need to try them in court before giving verdict or punishment ? Will that be vendetta ? What is Modi waiting for ?

I am surprised why some people sympathize him, cry political vendetta etc etc. This man has no limit to his greed and has gathered huge wealth through illegitimate means. He started his career as a small street rowdy and turned into a businessman and later joined politics to expand his business and protect his wealth. His modus operandi is to send his chellas to hunt for properties across the city and state which are lying vacant for a long time and the temple properties which are controlled by trustees. After due diligence by his chellas he will acquire these properties either by force or become a trustee member of the temple properties and gradually eliminate all the other trustees and become the sole controller and convert to real estate business.
What has come out of the investigation is only a tip of the iceberg as the dealings are so complex many that they cannot be investigated and many are now legalized by loopholes of the system.
What will this man do with all this wealth, for how many generation does he want to loot wealth. What is he trying to prove by doing dramas standing in front of Gandhi statue. After investigation he rushed to temple, what for, to ask god protect me for now i will bribe you by giving some donations.
Instead of all this drama this man should take a day tour to the government hospitals in the city and should see how many people who cannot afford for treatment are on the death bed, how many of their relatives are struggling to gather money for their loved ones. Probably if he is a human being at the end of the day tour he will realize that all this wealth is not mine but should have been useful for those struggling lives and one day we all need just a 6 by 3 feet area .

You are entitled to your opinion. However, deciding and pronouncing a person guilty or not is for investigation agencies and the Courts to do. If you feel why some are defending him the same way those speaking in favour of him feel pronouncing guilty or not should happen only after investigation is concluded and Courts give their decision based on the evidence presented. In law where democracy is practiced even a person suspected of crime is given a chance for defending and explaining his actions/inactions. However, if some BJP supporters are indirectly implying that they do not trust the Indian legal system then why can't non BJP supporters also do the same and question the correctness/clean chits of the verdicts of 2002 events.

BJP guys have been saying that if DKS is not guilty then why should he or the Congress party be afraid of investigation. So BJP supporters must also know that if they are so sure that DKS is guilty why can't they wait for the result of the investigation to be announced instead of getting desperate and running all over the media and pronouncing him guilty before investigation agencies and the Courts have done so. Respect the Courts and democratic processes. BJP supporters have been indulging in verbal lynching against DKS. This is Hindustan dear not BJPstan.

A minister has been caught concealing wealth to the tune of 300 crores. He is not repentant and has the audacity to claim that he has done no wrong. That is fine. Only a fool will admit that he has done something illegal. But what about the people? After all this, if we are still supporting this man, do we deserve anything good? Nothing good will happen in this country and the people will continue to slog while these minsters will continue to loot. We get only what we deserve. We deserve such ministers because they are elected by us and yes, these ministers deserve all the wealth that they are capable of looting. We people will never learn and the politicians are aware of that. That is why such people will continue to get elected as long as there are stupid people to elect them. Don't expect looting to stop. Both the BJP and the Congress will continue to loot the state and we people will continue to vote for such people.

    prostitution. The latter
    might endangers the morals
    of an individual, the former
    invariably endangers the
    morals of the entire country.

BJP , BJP supporters and only BJP friendly media have already passed judgement and convicted DKS even while investigation is still on. They are desperate to mislead the public in view of the upcoming assembly elections in Karnataka in 2018. That is why even when ITD stated in writing that no cash was recovered from DKS's residence the BJP, BJP friends and BJP media were dancing all over inside and outside TV studios spreading lies about money recovered from DKS's house. Their latest ally Nitish Kumar has already told us about the Rumour Spreading Society so no need for any more clarification from where such news is coming out. Moreover, what business do ITD or ED have to leak news (fake or real) to the media while the investigation is still on other than influencing public opinion against the Congress party to help the BJP.

Forget me. Ask that question to renowned and honest Justice Santosh Hegde. He will tell you exactly about Yeddy and Reddy in detail. He has volumes of documents on their investigation.

The law needs to be amended to make two IT Departments, one for ruling & the other for opposition party and they should raid each other so that the money can be spent on betterment of the country.
