Bengaluru: IT serves summons on D K Shivakumar - minister seeks two days time

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Aug 7: Karnataka energy minister, D K Shivakumar, who was going through a phase of rest and recuperation after the harrowing experience of surprise raid by income tax officials on his various properties and those of his close ones and relatives, received summons from income tax department seeking his personal appearance.

The department, sources said, which has taken into possession a large number of documents during its four-day raids on the residence of the minster and houses of his close associates, had begun the process of verifying the documents immediately thereafter. Summons have also been issued to minister's confidante and astrologer, Dwarakanath, Sachin Narayan and Shivakumar's father-in-law, Thimmaiah.

It is gathered that the minister , who confirmed to media persons on Sunday August 6 that he was in receipt of the summons, has sought time of two days to be able to present himself before the authorities. "The department has served summons on me in tune with law and I will appear for the investigation. No one is above law, and I too am not an exception," he stated.

The officials are learnt to have found documents pertaining to undeclared assets worth around Rs 300 crore. They are now checking huge stack of documents they had seized during the raids at over 60 spots. The process is being carried out at the regional office of the department here. The officials want to verify whether documents relating to immovable and movable properties of the minster confiscated from offices and residences of those close to the minister have anything to do with the business interests of Shivakumar.

During the personal appearance of Shivakumar and others, the officials plan to pick documents one by one and verify payment of income tax, property tax etc relating to each of them by questioning the concerned, and find out whether any of these properties stand in fake names.

It is said that the officials, who have stumbled upon undeclared property worth Rs 300 crore in the names of the minister and his associates, will undertake detailed scrutiny within a week and then write to enforcement directorate to undertake investigation.

I think nothing will happen... except IT officials asset doubles....

Chris, Did you read the clarification of Amit Shah on rise of his assets? In 2013 his mother Kusum Shah passed away and he inherited properties worth 18 crores through a court order . After this clarification the article on rise of his assets was silently deleted.

@Kartik - Shah's mother passed away in 2010 and NOT 2013. Please search in google for old archived news pertaining this subject. 300 percent growth in wealth in a short span of time indicates that something is not right.

The timing of her death is not important, it is mainly to be seen when did he inherited the property as per court order, now that's after 2012 so obviously there will be an increase in his assets.

Chris , Did you read the clarification from Amit Shah? In 2013 Amit Shahs Mother Kusum Shah died and he inherited properties worth 18 crores from her through a court order. This caused the rise in his assets. After this clarification the article was deleted from Times of India. Surely no proper verification was done before writing that article.

Nobody is above law. DKS too said this. If he had evaded tax or involved in corruption, why was he not arrested? Income tax authorities left with some bundle of documents. Where is 11 crores hard cash that media claimed found at his resident?

Now the question is who is misleading the people? DKS/Media/congress/BJP?

My sixth sense says that in this case DKS has advantage of being helped by many BJP legislators. Many might have advised IT officials to go slow on DKS. Amount recorded in the IT probe is very negligible shows that ' dasl mein kuch kaala hai'.....After all all are students of the same school. That is BJP high command is not happy with state party top leadership is not harsh in hailing DKS IT raid.Paisa boltha hai...

"Modi's vision of forming corruption free nation is very good, but same time if he directs IT raids to some of his own party corrupt leaders it would add much more weight to his personality"

    PAM Suvarna,
You being the supporter of BJP have expressed your sincere openion. Most of the supporters simply praise Modiji. Rules & Justice should be applied irrespective of party members. Only God knows peoples clean heart and apparent sincerity or clean immage. I wish Modiji will wait but never fail to fulfil his duty.

    Jaimini P.B., Manipal,Sharjah,
if he is 2nd richest politician, it doesnt mean that he is currupt. No one knows the truth and to be wise, it is good to wait and watch. But one good thing to learn from DKS is the courage and guts. when yeddi/reddys were caught, they did not had guts to face the public and media. But we have seen how DKS in past couple of days.
