Kundapur, Aug 9: A patient who was admitted to a private hospital here for a hernia surgery, died allegedly due to medical negligence post-operation.

Sanjiva Hosadu, a resident of Arate was admitted to the hospital on Monday, August 7. The doctors had conducted a surgery on him on Tuesday August 8 afternoon. Sanjiva was well in the afternoon after the operation, but experienced breathing problems all of a sudden in the evening. Doctors administered medicine, but Sanjiva did not survive.

His family, shocked by the sudden death of the recovering patient, alleged doctor's negligence after the operation as the cause of the demise. They lodged a police complaint against the hospital and took the doctor concerned to task by blaming him for the death. The police inspector from Kundapur police station tried to pacify them.

Sanjiva Hosadu was an active worker of CITU and was of affable nature.

The body has been sent to KMC Manipal for post-mortem. A case of unnatural death has been registered in Kundapur police station.

Procession

Sanjiva's body was taken in a procession to his hometown through the streets of Kundapur town on Wednesday August 9. Hundreds of cars and auto rickshaws flanked the ambulance.

CITU workers and members of other workers' associations expressed ire over Sanjiva's death. Fearing a full-fledged protest, the police beefed up the security.

The mortal remains were taken to Mullikatte via Hemmady and the final rites were conducted.
