Bengaluru, Aug 11: In yet another incident of its kind, the Aadhar card biometric feature has helped unite a 15-year-old mentally challenged boy with his mother on Monday in Bengaluru.
Sonu Khan was an inmate of Home for Mentally Retarded Children on Hosur Road. When an Aadhar enrolment drive was held at the home, the officials could not register Sonu and found that he was already registered.
They immediately tracked his profile based on the biometric details and found that he was a resident of Ekta Nagar, Karni Vihar at Ajmer Road of Jaipur.
The Children Home Superintendent immediately contacted the police station of the area in Jaipur who in turn put him in touch with his mother Mehrunissa.
A vegetable vendor in Jaipur, Mehrunissa could not hold back her tears when she hugged her son in Bengaluru. She says that Sonu went missing when he was playing outside his house in Ajmer road in March 2015. Though she searched for him a lot, she never found him and had lost hope.
“When I received a phone call and his photo on Whatsapp from the Children’s home it was like a dream come true,” she says. She came all the way to Bengaluru accompanied by Sub inspector of Karni Vihar Police station to take back Sonu.
However, how Sonu reached Bengaluru remains a mystery. Sonu too has not uttered a word since the time he was enrolled in the home in April 2015. But on Monday, he recognized his mother and hugged her with joyful tears.
Probationary Officer at Children's Home Mukta Bai says that last year too they had tried to make an Aadhar card for Sonu but it got rejected. However, this year they found out the reason. She says that Sonu is a well behaved boy and has mastered the art of making paper envelopes.
Sonu lost his father Mubarak Khan when he was an infant. He has an older brother who is pursuing Bachelor's of Computer Applications (BCA).
In a similar incident reported in Ballari a few days ago, three children with special needs were reunited with their parents thanks to Aadhar card.
