Bantwal, Aug 11: Parents of children studying in Sri Rama high school in Kalladka and Sri Devi school at Punacha, which have now been deprived of grants from Kollur Goddess Mookambika temple under its adoption scheme because of a government order barring extension of financial assistance, and their children, are seething in anger at the unilateral action of the government.

Terming this as depriving of the poor children of their food, thousands of parents of students studying in these two schools, held protest in front of the taluk office at B C Road on Friday August 11.

The protesters said that about 2,128 students studying in Sri Rama school at Kalladka are being given afternoon lunch, uniform and text books free of cost. Since 2007, financial assistance from Kollur temple is being extended to the school under the temple's school adoption scheme and as per permission given by the government. Even after the state government led by Siddarmaiah came to power in the state, this assistance continued to be extended for four and half years. The assistance has suddenly been withdrawn to Kalladka and Punachana schools, which the parents termed as condemnable.

"About 94 percent of students of these two institutions belong to poor, backward classes, scheduled castes and tribes and minorities. 52 schools in the state are getting grants in this fashion. On account of political enmity, under an initiative supported by Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, grants meant for only these two schools have been stopped. This is an atrocity on a Kannada school, and this inhuman initiative of the government it tantamount to violation of right to education. The government, which issued orders withdrawing funds being provided towards feeding the poor children in the form of blessings of god, on account of political considerations backed by enmity of the minister, should be withdrawn," the parents insisted.

The protesters said that they will continue to fight till justice is done if the said order is not taken back at the earliest.

The students of the schools too arrived at B C Road with their food plates in hand. They gave vent to their anger by incessantly banging their dinner plates.`

Aloysius students protested for the cause even Sunder Ram Shetty would have been proud of being an alumni of the institute. Whereas this protest is taking a huge money from the temple donation and giving a little to the school and making a huge self gain and name. BTW the students don't look so poor and impoverished and hence don't require any donation or help. They look coming from a quite well to do families.

Most of the temples in India are Brahminical influenced and only time their is no discrimination if 'hundi' being emptied even though the offering are from SC,ST,OBC etc..If temple grants in India are properly utilised there are no poor left in this country. Unfortunately this funds ends up in the wrongful hands and deviated for wrong reasons.
If I go through the various comment from the readers it seems most of them are against government decision and supporting Kalladka Bhat who openly preaching hate.
If Bhat wanted welfare of his society why don't he personally sell his ancestral land donate it to poor children of this school? Why don't he utilize his medical degree and offer free service in his residence?
It is true that Bhat has stop practicing and his only bread and butter is from the grants which devotees in reverence dropped for God.
If these two private schools can't run without the temple grants, let the management can seek state government aide bringing them under government school criteria.
Being medical professional Bhat contribution to the Hindu society is nothing. He should better start giving free lectures for school students rather than wasting precious time preaching hate.
Dragging innocents student who are future of this nation for political cause is absolutely unacceptable.

I am of the opinion that depriving the school of funds is not the right thing to do. That is because so many children will have to suffer for no fault of theirs. On the other hand, if the government finds that Kalladka Bhat is guilty of any wrong practices, he should be proceeded against by the government. No doubt about that. Nobody is above law, be it Kalladka Bhat or Shiv Kumar. But dragging the children into all this is not correct.

This protest too is politically sponsored just like in previous case they defied section 144 & held it as a mockery of death.
There is Akshaya Pathra by ISCON, which can be extended to these children, but here the grant is misused by some is evident & they won't let go of it without a fight using children & parents to serve their end.
If anything is against the rules then theses schools too need to adhere to the same, instead of lamenting we misused it till now & we have a birth right to do the same in future as well.
The kids seem to be happy that they got one day off & smiling & happy & doesn't look starved, they are getting enough grains in "Anna Bhagya" Scheme, they better bring their tifin boxes as many used to do in our times.
