Udupi: Misuse of fishermen's diesel in twin districts - case referred to CID

Udupi, Aug 12: During the inspection about alleged irregularities made against the officials manning the diesel bunk of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District Cooperative Fish Marketting Federation Ltd , Mangaluru, at Malpe, it was found that supervisor and managing director posted at Malpe diesel bunk by the said federation had distributed diesel at will to ineligible persons for making a profit.

As per the rules, the diesel, supplied under essential commodities act, has to be supplied at subsidized rates to fishermen. Misuse of funds so earned was observed from August 2014 and May 2015.

A case was thereafter registered in Malpe, Gangolli, Padubidri and Mangaluru (south) police station in 2017.

After detailed consideration of the case, deputy secretary in the department of internal administration has, under the orders of the state governor, conveyed to the concerned that the said cases registered in Malpe, Gangolli, Padubidri and Mangaluru (south) police stations will be investigated by criminal investigation department.

The officer has asked the department of animal husbandry and fisheries to extend full cooperation to the CID team.
