Mangaluru, Aug 12: Karnataka State Religious Council has justified the action of the government in withdrawing grants which were being released from out of funds of a temple falling under the department of religious endowments, to two schools under the administration of organizations administered by Kalladka Prabhkar Bhat.

Members of the council, Padmanabha Kotian and Jagannivas Rao, addressed a press conference on this issue at Circuit House in the city on Saturday August 12. They claimed that grants were found to have been released illegally from temples functioning under the department of religious endowments to a number of privately run schools.

"All this is being stopped one by one. For example, last year, grant being given to Saraswathi School, Kadaba, had been withdrawn. At that time, no one had opposed the move, nor were any protests held. The religious council, in stopping this grant, was not guided by the fact that these schools are being run by Prabhakar Bhat. The process had been set rolling about a year back, and the decision is being implemented now," they sought to clarify.

They further explained that religious endowments department had drafted clearcut policy for release of grants, but accused the previous BJP regime of getting the grants released illegally by bringing pressure on officers of the department without taking care to change even the policy governing the grants to suit these decisions. They stated that an investigation will be held into the issue and guilty officials will be acted against, including recovery of funds wrongly released from them.

Jagan Chowta and Mithun Suvarna, district committee members of the council, were present.

This council is worried about temple funds.
why dont they worry why temple funds are used to fund churches and madrasas?
last year karnataka govt spend 35 crores on churches and 50 crores on madrasas. whereas Hindu temple gave to the government more than 200 crores.
Zero income came from minority institutions to the government.

    india is secular, especially karnataka.

The funds given to the school is not government fund.. dont spread false news. The money comes from Temple hundi we commeners offer in temples and STATE IS JUST MISUSING IT FOR ITS VOTEBANK POLITICS. Now who ever manages that school, over 85 percent students out of near 4000 are from poorest of poor families who were benefitted by mid-day meal scheme. When the money is from temple which is used for poor childrens education and food, why the state govt stopping it out right? just because kalladka Bhatt dint even care a hoot for CM or district minister? they are taking revenge o n kids? frankly its shameful act by an Inhuman CM.

Mangalore is so communalized , that any policy implementation is seen through a communal angle. People are all out to show how angry we are at each others community, that reason has lost us. Every death, accident, natural mishap, renaming of road, any ordinary happening looks out for Orange or green flags, not orange AND green.

This is how we encouraged corruption, my community and your community, not our community. Thank god, the members of the committee clarified. At least one percent would realise now that it is not their beloved cm, but it is a dedicated council.
