MUMBAI, Jun 18: It was all hunky-dory between Sucheta Anand and her boyfriend Arjun Menon till the very end. In fact, the couple had sex hours before the 25-year-old airhostess committed suicide, Menon reportedly told police. But then Sucheta asked him to marry her and cosy talks turned into a squabble, which finally ended in the tragedy on June 7.
In his statement to the Santa Cruz police, Menon has admitted that he went to Sucheta's room at 1pm that afternoon and they had sex. “Later, Sucheta kept pressurising me for marriage. I then walked out of the hotel room and messaged her that I cannot marry her and she will have to wait,” Menon reportedly told the police in his statement.
According to a police official who did not wish to be named, Menon went back to the airhostess' room at around 5.15pm but did not find her. Since her cell phone was continuously engaged, Menon sent a text message which said, “You keep on saying that I have relationships with other girls but you too have something that you are hiding from me. In this situation, why don't we go separate, let's end this relation. You be happy in your life let me enjoy mine. It's all over.”
Sucheta had promptly replied to Menon's SMS saying, “Arjun this is not the first time. You don't have faith in me. I was talking to my mother and how dare you say let's end up this immense relation.”
And while this had already shocked Sucheta, a few minutes, according to the police, Menon replied to Sucheta's message stating: “Its all over, I don't want to talk to you anymore. Let me do what the hell I am doing. You do yours.”
The police will question a few airhostesses and other employees of the IndiGo airlines to get more details. Initially, the police believed that it was her “troubled marriage” and alleged harassment at the hands of her husband that drove Sucheta to suicide.
However, the story started unfolding after the police found that Menon was the last person to have met Sucheta before she committed suicide. Police found that he knew Sucheta for the past year and a half and they were in love.
There was even speculation whether Sucheta was pregnant. And after Menon's arrest, the whole story started unfolding with the help of text messages exchanged between the two.
Menon, a resident of Chandivali at Powai, had divorced his wife a few years ago. Menon, who graduated from Pune University in 2002, joined Indigo Airlines two years ago as a co-pilot. A year-and-a-half ago, Sucheta Anand joined the airlines as airhostess. Menon got friendly with Sucheta, who, too, was going through a troubled marriage. The two gradually became close.
