Bengaluru: Government readying to deliver 'power purchase shock' to BJP

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Oct 25: Even as BJP is belligerently heaping allegations of scams on the part of ruling Congress government in the state, it is gathered that the government is silently preparing to take on former chief minister and state BJP president, Y S Yeddyurappa, and MP, Shobha Karandlaje, who was energy minister in the past, on the issue of power purchase scandal during the period BJP government was in office.

The house committee formed to look into power purchase scandal is expected to file its report by the end of this month. When Yeddyurappa was the chief minister of Karnataka, Shobha Karandlaje was the energy minister in 2010. During that period, power purchases were made to the extent of Rs 28,000 crore, overriding the objections of the finance department. A private television channel has come out with a report stating that the committee has found irregularities running into several thousands of crores in the purchase of power.

Siddaramaiah, Yeddyurappa

BJP had earlier accused chief minister, Siddaramaiah, of being involved with land denotification scandal. Later, it had said that the state had indulged in scandal in buying of coal, duly supported by some documents. Having been pushed to the wall, the government, it is said, now plans to hit back at BJP.

Reacting to the information, Shobha Karandlaje said that all power purchase agreements are entered into by officials and that the ministers have no role to play. She termed allegation of power purchase scandal when she was the minister as politically motivated. "As per rules, scandals above five crore rupees need to be entrusted to Central Bureau of Investigation. Therefore, I demand to hand over the issue to this agency so that truth will come out," she commented.

Chief minister, Siddaramaiah, said that a decision on whom to entrust the report being submitted by the house committee headed by D K Shivakumar will be taken once the house committee presents its report. He said that there are allegations about Shobha Karandlaje indulging in corrupt practices when she was energy minister, adding that minsters are responsible for scandals happening in their respective departments. He felt that Shobha is now trying to wriggle out of this problem by shifting the onus.

If all that MP, Shobha Karandlaje says true, let her give figures how many 'Kilowatt' of electricity has been additionally added to the grid in her tenure?
Why the electricity is purchased when the Karnataka is supplying BJP ruled Goa which in turns offers its customers lower than the purchase price?
How many Kilowatt of electricity is reserved from 'Kaiga' which comes under national grid to the Karnataka?
Why Raichur thermal power corporation is facing 'coal' shortage in her tenure?
Why her ministry didn't call for bidding government portal?

The best option, in this highly corrupt political environment would be to hand back the investigative authority in corruption cases to an apolitical body like 'LOKPAL' or 'LOKAYUKTA' headed by totally incorruptible persons with the highest level of integrity.

Punishment for proven offences of corruption by peoples' representative/s should be of very severe nature, e.g., long prison sentences along with huge fines (covering the loss to the exchequer), as well as removal from the post of peoples' representative (MP, MLA, MLC, etc., etc.). No differentiation is to be done to the corrupt person, whether he/she belongs to the ruling party, or to the opposition party. The lacunae in our numerous laws are very intelligently being taken advantage of and being misused, by various corrupt politicians belonging to different parties.

Hope another peoples' anti-corruption movement is initiated at the earliest. Only this can save our country from ruin.

Shobha what an Idea, CBI under your umbrella. Just think what your CBI has done to the mining scam . Just put all the cases under the carpet to save all your BJ P who were involved in the scam. Is this not Acche Din. It is the high time for the people of Karnataka to think and keep Congress and BJP out and give a chance to JDS.

    Crucify the barbarians.
How come they woke up when elections are nearing?
Do they think that our judiciary system is farce to tolerate all the wrong doings?
BJP is not a special party created and sent from above containing angels of God.
Crooks they do not watch their own back and guilty conscience. They must face defeat for their false presentation.
Voter please identify the devils who in disguise and our State.
    God bless.
