A Saas-bahu Saga - TV Star Leena Prabhu Left Homeless

TNN

Mumbai, Jun 20: A saas-bahu saga was played out in real life after television actress Leena Prabhu approached the Goregaon (E) police on Wednesday, claiming that she had been thrown out of her house with her husband and kid, at the behest of her in-laws. Prabhu features in the tele-serial Main Teri Parchhai Hoon and has worked with Gujarati theatre groups since a decade. The house belongs to Prabhu’s in-laws, who moved out on Wednesday after selling the flat to a political party worker. Prabhu and her husband have since been moving around the city without even a change of clothes—their money and belongings are locked away in the house.

The Goregaon (E) police recorded the statements of Prabhu as well as her in-laws but did not register an
FIR, stating that the exact nature of offence could be established only after detailed investigation. Prabhu claims the police are too busy with bandobast duty, following Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s arrival in city.

Prabhu had a love marriage nearly 15 years ago and started living in a joint family at Pandurangwadi in Goregaon (E). Her husband, Sudhir, is an only child and works in a departmental store chain. The couple have a 13-year-old son, who is battling with learning disability.

“Prabhu does not get along with her in-laws, Mohan and Seema, who are septuagenarians. In the past, both parties have lodged non-cognisable complaints (NC) of harassment against each other,’’ a police officer said. Last fortnight, Mohan, who is physically handicapped, sold the flat in Pandurangwadi to a political party worker. On Wednesday, he moved out of the house with his wife, Seema, and their possessions.

“I was away shooting for a tele-serial at Madh around 10.30 am, when a dozen goons entered our house. My husband was alone. They kicked and punched him, pushing him out of the house. After a neighbour informed me about the incident, I rushed to Siddharth hospital where my husband had been admitted,’’ Prabhu told TOI.

“My son returned from school soon after and has been with us the entire day in his school uniform. We were at the police station for nearly 14 hours but an FIR was not registered in the case.’’

When contacted, Prabhu’s fatherin-law said he had informed his son about his decision to sell the flat almost 15 days ago. “We have undergone a lot of physical and mental torture. We will now move to an old-age home and use sale proceeds from the flat for our expenses there,’’ he said. He added that his son and daughter-in-law could collect their belongings from the flat, in the presence of a police official.
