Mumbai, Jun 21: A teenaged girl, who got married recently, has been arrested for allegedly killing her husband after he caught her in a compromising position with her boy-friend.

On Monday, Reena, 19, told her brother-in-law Dara Singh that her husband Ramchandra was not waking up from bed. She told him Ramchandra had not been well on Sunday night. Dara Singh checked Ramchandra's pulse and realised he was dead. He then informed the Srinagar police in Thane about the death.

The police found injuries on Ramchandra's head. When they questioned Reena about the injuries, she allegedly feigned ignorance. But on sustained interrogation, which lasted over three hours, she confessed that she had killed him, the police said.

“Reena told us that she hit Ramchandra with a grinding stone on his head when he started fighting with her boyfriend Abhimanyu,” senior inspector Shivajirao Deshmukh said. “Ramchandra had found Reena and Abhimnayu in a compromising position,” he said.

Reena, who married Ramchandra, 28, of Thane, two months ago, and Abhimanyu belong to the Mugalsarai district in Uttar Pradesh; they lived in the same village and knew each other for six years, the police said. After her marriage, Reena came to Thane to her husband's place.

A few days later, she contacted Abhimanyu, who stayed in Dombivli and worked in a factory there. She invited him to her residence on Sunday for dinner and introduced him to Ramchandra as her cousin.

“Abhimanyu and Reena got Ramchandra drunk. They repeatedly served him liquor spiked with sleeping pills,” Deshmukh said. “When he fell asleep, Reena and Abhimanyu started cozying up in the next room. Around midnight, Ramchandra woke up and went in to the next room, where he found Reena and Abhimanyu in a compromising position,” he said. He then attacked Abhimanyu, the police officer said.

Reena told the police she had only wanted to stop Ramchandra from killing Abhimanyu.
