Five men from Kannur are fighting for IS in Syria, say police

Kannur, Nov 3 : Police here on Thursday November 3, released details of five men from the district believed to be fighting for the Islamic State (IS) in Syria.

Abdul Qayyum, Abdul Manaf, Shabeer, Suhail and Safwan are the five persons who are believed to be fighting in Syria. As per Kannur deputy superintendent of police P P Sadanandan these five men belong to different parts of the district.

"They are stationed in Syria. Cases were registered on 15 men from the district having links with the IS. While five others have been reported dead, five were arrested last week," Sadanandan said.

On October 25 and 26, police had arrested five suspected IS operatives from the district namey Rashid M V, Abdul Razzaq, Mithilaj K C, Manaf and Hamza. Hamza is believed to have functioned as a recruiter to the terrorist outfit.

Rashid, Razzaq and Mithilaj were stationed in Turkey and were trying to enter Syria when they were intercepted by the Turkish authorities and deported to India.

Information gathered from interrogating the arrested men confirmed that five others from the district were dead and all of them had left the country to join the IS. They also revealed that four of them were 30 years or less.

The five dead men are, Shahnad, Rishal, Shameer, his son Salman and Muhammad Shajir.

    US says the regime of Bashar Al Asad in Syria is a terrorist organization.
    US also says that ISIS is a terrorist organisation.
    Kerala police says that some people from Kannur joined ISIS and fighting as terrorists.
    Conclusion: If they are all terrorists and fighting each other, Let them fight each other and die.
    Why should we be bothered ?

    Just because there are five from Kannur in Syria with IS, it does not mean they are FIGHTing for the IS.

    IS folks need cooks, waiters and cleaners too.

    So, the Kannur men could be preparing and serving puttu, motta and chaaya/kaaphi to the fighters.

    Their share in heaven may be a bit less.
