Udupi, Nov 12: District in-charge minister, Pramod Madhwaraj, whose helmet-less travel on motor bike when attending a programme held at Karje in the taluk on Thursday November 9 had raised controversy, put an end to the issue by paying fine of Rs 100 on Friday at Brahmavar police station.

During the said programme of laying foundation stone for some works, the minister, who had reached the venue in advance, had spent spare time by riding a motor bike there. Some people who clicked the picture of the minister riding the two-wheeler without wearing a helmet, had posted the same in social websites, after which several had posted adverse comments. District superintendent of police (SP), Dr Sanjeev M Patil, said that the minister himself paid the fine for the above mistake.

On Saturday, the SP personally supervised traffic snarls in the city in response to complaint made by a person about increasing traffic congestion in the city. He warned those who parked their vehicles by the roadsides to desist from doing so if they wanted to avoid visits to courts and pay fines. He said that the department will strictly act against violators from Monday onward.

The SP was accompanied by deputy SP and police of the town station. The owners of commercial establishments in VST road, Corporation Bank Road and near the mosque were individually warned of action. Some customers involved with shopping were also summoned and warned about their habit of wrong parking. A few vehicles which were parked on footpath were locked while some others were towed away as their owners failed to turn up after reasonable time. Instructions were given by loudspeakers to vacate vehicles blocking traffic.

The SP was accompanied by DySP, Kumaraswamy, inspector, Navinchandra Jogi, and sub-inspector, Anantapadmanabha, during the operation.
