Kasargod, Jun 29: One person died and two were injured, in a ghastly accident on the Mangalore — Thiruvanthapuram National Highway 17, under Kumble jurisdiction, on Saturday, June 28.

The head-on collision between a maxi-cab and a car occurred near Siriya River. The deceased has been identified as Manoj (18), resident of Mangalore. Sujith and Akshay, who were traveling with Manoj, are in a critical condition, sources informed. The three were on their way home after a visit to Bekal Fort.

The maxi-cab which was plying towards Kasargod hit the car which was traveling in the opposite direction. Kumble police have registered a case.

Incessant rains over the past few days have made the roads slick and this is taking its toll on motorists who are not seasoned drivers. The lashing rain, and strong winds make driving hazardous with poor visibility. Reckless overtaking under extreme conditions is the leading cause of numerous accidents, not to mention the loss of life, damage to public property, and roadblocks that they bring about.
