Mangalore: Amarnath Shetty Likely to be Rewarded With BJP MLC Seat?

Mangalore, Jun 29: Amarnath Shetty, ex minister and JDS strongman from Moodbidri, is likely to get the membership of the state legislative council. It is widely believed, that an secret understanding entered into between the BJP and the JDS in the district enabled Kota Srinivas Poojary to romp home with a relatively big margin in the council election. Amarnath Shetty is set to be rewarded with a nomination to the legislative council.

Shetty,  who had mulled the desirability of joining the BJP even in the past, had been reluctant to do so because of the fear of  his traditional supporters from some minority pockets getting antagonised. However, the fact that the JDS was relegated to the third spot in the Moodbidri constituency in the recent hustings, had compelled him to shift his stand, it is believed.

A few rounds of discussions had taken place between the top leaders of both the parties at the district level on the issue. In the process, Amarnath Shetty even disobeyed the diktat of the party supremo Deve Gowda who had asked his partymen not to support the BJP. It is not yet known as to what the Gowda camp will do to punish Shetty for this gross indiscipline.
