Bangalore: Nine Legislative Council Seats to Fall Vacant

Bangalore, Jun 30: Seven members of the state legislative council including its speaker Prof B K Chandrashekhar, will be retiring on Monday June 30, on expiry of their term.

In addition to B K Chandrashekhar, Ashok Kattimani, Salim Ahmed, Sacchidanand Khota, D Made Gowda, Ratna V Kusanoor from the Congress and H S Shivashankar, elected from the local bodies constituency, will be retiring today. In place of Prof B K Chandrashekhar, JD (S) leadaer N Tippanna is set to take over as speaker on an ad hoc basis. A new speaker might be elected during the budget session starting on July 17.

As Shobha Karandlaje and Aravind Limbavali, whose term would have expired in June 2010 have got elected as members of the legislative assembly, they have resigned from their council memberships. These two seats have also fallen vacant.
