Mangalore: Monsoon Continues with Unrestrained Fury

Mangalore, Jun 30: The coastal districtrs and also Kodagu received heavy rains during the last 24 hours. Speeding gales coupled with heavy rains inflicted damages to roads and buildings at several places. Udupi and Karkala taluks received heaviest rains.

Low-lying areas continued to be inundated. Electricity played hide and seek with unscheduled load shedding due to the uprooting of electric poles and electric wires getting snapped by falling trees. Several rural roads were blocked for a major part of the day due to uprooted trees. Several trees fell to the ground in Sullia town and elsewhere in the taluk. A well in Haradi village near Brahmavar collapsed.

Kollur received the highest rainfall of 16 cms followed by 13 cms at Bajpe, 12 cms at Panambur and Kota in Udupi taluk at 11 cms. The rains are expected to continue for a couple of days.
