Puttur: National workshop held at St Philomena College

Puttur, Feb 6: On the occasion of diamond jubilee celebrations, library and information centre of Centre for PG Studies and Research of St Philomena College organized day-long national workshop on the topic ‘Access to E-Resources for Academic and Research Excellence’ on February 1. 

Chairman, department of Library and Information Science of Mangalore University Dr Khaisar Muneebulla Khan inaugurated the workshop and delivered the key note address. He said, “Library is the temple of learning. It is responsible for recording, preserving and providing information to the readers.”

Principal of St Philomena PU College Fr Vijay Lobo participated as the chief guest. He said, “Reading is an essential tool for lifelong learning.”

Principal of the College Prof Leo Noronha delivered presidential address. He said, “Library gives an opportunity to acquire new knowledge.”

Vidyalakshmi and team performed the prayer. Convener of workshop and convener of PG Library Advisory Committee Fr Rithesh Rodrigues welcomed the gathering. Member of Library Advisory Committee Praveen Prakash D’Souza rendered the vote of thanks. The librarians of Centre for PG Studies of the college Manohara S G and Noothana Kumari M coordinated the programme. Poornima S compered the programme.

In the technical sessions, Dr Vasappa Gowda, selection grade librarian, Besant Evening College Mangaluru presented on the topic, ‘Basics of Research Methodology – A Guide for the Beginners’. Dr Rekha D Pai, associate professor and chief librarian, MIT Manipal Academy of Higher Education presented on the topic, ‘Effective use of E-Resources for Academic and Research Development’. Librarians, research scholars, faculty members and the students of Library and Information Science of Mangalore University participated as delegates.
