Mangalore: KSOU and Fr Muller Introduce 12 Health Science Courses

Mangalore, Aug 4: Health science courses in partnership with the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), were inaugurated at Fr Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI) on Monday, August 4.

Prof B A Vivek Rai, vice-chancellor, KSOU, was the chief guest.Prof K T Shivanand, dean (academic) of KSOU, Prof G Ramanathan, registrar of KSOU, and Dr B Sanjeev Rai, dean of Fr Muller Medical College (FMMC), were present on the dais.

Fr Patrick Rodrigues, director of FMCI, presided over the function. An FMCI documentary was also screened on the occasion.









Fr Denis D'Sa, director of FMMC, welcomed the gathering while Sr Jacintha D'Souza, proposed the vote of thanks.

Prof B.A. Viveka Rai addressed the gathering and enlightened the audience about the importance of Open Universities. Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) is the 14th Open University in India and is the 3rd among them to start Health Science Courses. He emphasized on the importance of Open Universities in their novel approach to education and in the openness to people irrespective of any age or background, its methodology and ideas.








He brought to light that such ventures are aimed at self sustenance and upbringing of the down trodden people from the clutches of globalization. KSOU aims in achieving 24% of university enrolment as presently India has only 10% of University enrollment to boast about.

Dr. B. Sanjeev Rai addressed the gathering following which Fr. Patrick Rodrigues spoke about the prospects of this venture in taking health care education to the downtrodden and underprivileged strata of the society.

Dignitaries were presented with mementoes and Sr. Jacintha D’Souza proposed the Vote of Thanks. The Function ended with a seven minute multimedia presentation on Father Muller Charitable Institutions and the Institutional Anthem

    It is not surprising to see Father Muller's making rapid progress under the leadership of Father Patrick Rodrigues. Father Patrick is known to me for several decades as an outstanding executive. It was a pleasure to work with him for many years in the past when he was an Assistant Director and I was then on The Board of FMCI. I had also the pleasure of meeting Father Patrick in U.S.A. where he was doing his Masters in Health Care at one of the best known Universities. He now comes back as a Director with rich experience and a fund of knowledge.

    He has with him stalwarts like Father Stany and Father Denis as administrators in their respective areas. All this portends an era of growth for The Institutions under the Diocese of Mangalore headed by Rt. Rev. Dr. A.P.Souza who is doing an excellent job and attends most of the events at the Hospital despite the multiplicity of his schedules. My hearty congratulations to all concerned in commencing Health Science Courses. My good wishes are and will always be with Father Muller's. Joe Gonsalves
