Mangalore: Orissa Violence – Fr Edward Sequeira from Kirem Injured Critically

Mangalore, Aug 26: Daijiworld's reliable sources said that a religious priest, who was one among the injured in Sangh Parivar activists' attack on churches and other institutions run by Catholic missionaries on Monday August 25, hailed from Mangalore and was serving in Orissa for the last few year.
The priest has been identified as Fr Edward Sequeira (52), a native of Our Lady of Remedies Church, Kirem located near Kinnigoli. He was critically injured when the miscreants attacked an orphanage in Padampun in Kuntupalli village in Bargarh district. He had wounds of assault all over his body and was taken to Padampur Government Hospital, soon after the attack. However, owing to his critical condition, he has now been shifted to Orul Medical College Hospital. Though he is out of danger, breathing problem still persists, sources added.
Fr Edward Sequeira is the son Mary Sequeira and late Raymond Sequeira of Kirem. He is the fourth among the 10 children of their family. He had done his primary schooling in Kirem and graduation from St Philomena’s College and later joined SVD congregation.
He was sent to Orissa after he was ordained as a priest. He had built a church in Madhupur in Orissa. He was also managing the orphanage and leprosy centers in Bargarh district.
