Kundapur: Congress and BJP candidates conclude campaigns with road shows

Kundapur, May 10: Candidates of Congress and BJP performed walloping road shows in Gangolli on the final day of open campaigns on Thursday, May 10 and tried to win the hearts of voters.

BJP road show that commenced near Rama Mandira, Gangolli progressed on Gangolli main road and concluded at near port office. BJP candidate B M Sukumar Shetty was in open vehicle in the presence of thousands of activists. Taluk panchayat member Surendra Kharvi, BJP’s Sukhananda Shetty, B Sadananda Shenoy and others took part. The party activists in large numbers shouted slogans in favour of Modi and Yeddyurappa and danced while walking in the procession.



Meanwhile Congress candidate K Gopal Poojary requested for votes through Pada Yatre from near Bunder Port office. Taluk panchayat member Raju Devadiga, Gangolli congress committee president Durgaraj Poojary, grama panchayat members and activists were in the procession.

When BJP activists were returning after the road show, they shouted Modi Modi to Congress candidate Gopal Poojary who arrived on the road in Gangolli.
Police stopped BJP activists and sent them back. Gopal Poojary, who got embarrassed by the slogans, shouting by hundreds of BJP activists, proceeded towards fisheries port. Congress activists who had gathered for the procession of Congress candidate were a little perturbed. They expressed anguish against BJP activists.

Gopal Poojary took the election officials to task for allowing BJP activists to continue with road show for longer than stipulated time by violating rules. He asked what action will be taken against the violation. An atmosphere of confusion prevailed for some time. Finally the election officials and police controlled the situation and allowed the Padayathra of Congress to proceed.
