Mangaluru, May 11: Following the attack on an Sanjeeva Poojary, an aide of minister Ramanath Rai, Dakshina Kannada superintendent of police Ravikanthe Gowda has issued a strict warning to political parties against taking law into their hands.
Sanjeeva Poojary, a Billawa leader was attacked late night on Thursday May 11 allegedly by BJP workers at Melkar in Bantwal. The attackes allegedly barged into Poojary's house and assaulted him, his wife and his employees. The miscreants also damaged his car.
In a statement to the media here on Friday May 11, the SP said that if any party or its supporters have any complaint, they must first report it to the local unit of the election commission or the police department.
He said that if the political parties take law into their hands, the police will take stern action against them. "It will be an offence if the party workers take action on their own without informing the authorities," he said.
Meanwhile, two separate complaints have been lodged in Bantwal town police station.
An FIR has been registered against BJP leader Shrikanth Shetty and 14 others in this regard on charges of illegal entry and assault.
