Muscat, May 14: Sangeeth Sardar Wilson Olivera and his troupe of entertainers regaled the Konkani music lovers in Muscat who gathered in large numbers from across Oman to witness the musical Nite. Wilson Olivera, the current hot favourite composer and singer, conducting his first ever show in Muscat, ensured that the all those gathered were treated to a supreme and superlative level of Konkani music.
Mangalore Catholic Centre of the Parish (MCCP) – Muscat under the leadership of Sunil Furtado and Team-26 organized ‘Wilson Olivera Nite’, a Konkani musical extravaganza on Friday, 11 May at the Le Grande Hall, Al Falaj Hotel, Muscat, on the occasion of their 26th Annual Day. The show saw tremendous success, with the audience being entertained to the maximum.
The musical evening began with the prayer song 'Namo Bapa' by Wilson Olivera and team. The stage was set alight by the melodious numbers from versatile singers Babita Pinto, Preema D’Souza, Pradeep Pinto and the First GVOM winner Vinay Lewis enthralling the gathering with beautiful renditions of new and evergreen compositions of Wilson Olivera. Altogether, the audiences were treated with 14 songs of different genres during the course of the evening.
Ronald Olivera, brother of Wilson Olivera, a professional public speaker, took charge of the show and kept the audience attention alive throughout with his unmatchable oratory skills. His unique style and witty humour won the hearts of the audience in Muscat.
The music mood started with the curtain-raiser song “Punvecho Chondrem Laztha” by Wilson Olivera followed by ‘Muklea Gati thavun’ by Babita Pinto. The crowd went to a tizzy state when Preema D’Souza started singing ‘Pauxillea Disacho Vell’ along with a scintillating dance performance. This brilliant dance was performed by Rinet Menezes, Linda D’Souza, Jane D’Cunha, Sunita Furtado and Priyanka Mendonca. It was choreographed by Priyanka Mendonca and coordinated by Philomena Mendonca.
Then, Wilson Olivera sang his new solo song ‘Ghadeall Ravonk zatha’, followed by ‘Sanjechi Saat Zalin’ by the young and versatile singer Pradeep Pinto, ‘Tum Sorxim Astana’ a duet by Vinay Lewis and Preema D'Souza, ‘Naveekarann’ by Wilson Olivera, ‘Naav Moje Monica’, a brand new solo song by Babita Pinto and ‘Konkangaar’, a group song by Wilson Olivera, Preema D’Souza, Pradeep Pinto and Vinay Lewis.
The next song was by Vinay Lewis singing ‘Tujea Galancher’ with a dance spectacle from Deepak D’Souza and Reema Pinto. The crowd was treated with a super dance performance which was choreographed by Deepak D’Souza himself.
This was followed by ‘Bombaichem Chedum’ by Pradeep Pinto and ‘Channeachi Raat’ by Wilson Olivera and Babita Pinto. This song was accompanied by a super dance performance by Alston Moras and Megan D’Souza. Their dazzling moves on the stage brought the crowd to their feet. The dance was choreographed by Alston Moras and Megan D’Souza themselves and coordinated by Sonia D’Souza.
The last part of the musical Nite saw another outstanding duet song ‘Ubgonn Bhogtha’ by Wilson Olivera and Preema D'Souza and finale being another duet song ‘Pausanth Bhizanaka’ by Vinay Lewis and Babita Pinto. This fast number was complemented by a lovely dance performance by Lovette Rego, Andril Lobo, Chris D’Souza and Deepak D’Souza.
The entertainment was top-notch and the gathered Konkani music-lovers enjoyed every moment of the evening. The audience witnessed variety of dance performances from young and aspiring dancers from Muscat. With meaningful lyrics Wilson Olivera’s music had latest touch without killing the style of Konkani music.
The music director Roshan D’Souza Angelore made this event a perfect amalgamation of mesmerizing music for Olivera’s compositions. Having music directed for the Konkani film ‘Noshibacho Khell’ and several Konkani musical shows and albums, he played a key role in making this show a grand success. He was accompanied by Sanjay Rodrigues on the keyboard. They were supported by local musicians Prakash D’Souza (Drums), Shaun Menezes (Bass guitarist) and Mervin Mascarenhas (Keyboard).
Comedy troupe ‘Konkan Tharam- Dubai' led by Royston D’Souza- Balkunje, created a riot of laughter among the crowd with their hilarious jokes and one liners added attraction to the musical show. Along with Royston D’Souza, Joel Pinto and Joylene Pinto added a generous dose of humour. Franklin Rodrigues supported comedy skits with the background music.
Wilson Olivera was honoured by MCCP during the show for his outstanding contribution to Konkani Music. His various achievements were read out by Philomena Saldanha. The Core Committee members, Stanley Fernandes, Donald Pinto, Clarence Pinto and John Gonsalves presented a shawl and Sunil Furtado offered a plaque to Wilson Olivera. MCCP also presented mementos of appreciation to the Master of Ceremony, all the singers, musicians, comedians, dancers and choreographers.
The packed audience thoroughly enjoyed the musical nite which concluded at around 10.30 pm.
