Badami, May 14: Over a thousand postal ballot covers were found at a local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader’s hotel in Badami on Monday May 14, said media reports.
A report by News 18 states that the BJP workers were opening the ballots.
The postal ballots were found in Anand Lodge, belonging to a BJP leader here.
Reports said that some suspects fled the spot when news reporters who received information arrived.
The Congress has demanded Election Commission to probe the matter.
Reacting to the News 18 report, All India Congress Committee Convenor and spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi tweeted, "The more desperate BJP, the more desperate their tactics. How low can one go? Will EC take note?"
Election officials who received information arrived at the hotel and conducted investigations.
With hours to go for the counting, winning the Badami constituency is a prestige issue both for the Congress and the BJP. Chief minister Siddaramaiah is up against BJP's Sriramulu, a close aide of mining baron Janardhana Reddy.
