Hassan, May 16: A huge explosion went off when the victory rally of JD(S) MLA, H K Kumaraswamy, was in progress on the evening of Tuesday May 15 at Ballupet near Sakleshpur in the district. Three persons were injured in the incident while the Innova car belonging to the MLA was damaged. Three shops located by the roadside also were damaged.
The injured happen to be Rajesh, husband of Roopa, president of Ballupet gram panchayat, and two others. Glass shields of show cases inside a bakery and a stationery shop were damaged in the incident as a result of which things inside the shop fell down.

The injuries were caused by the bursting of stones. The jeep on which MLA, Kumaraswamy, was standing also violently shook for sometime. The Innova car that was following the jeep was damaged. People turned panicky and ran away in different directions. The party workers caught hold of the man who caused this explosion and seized from him explosives and detonating materials. After finding him to be intoxicated, the man was handed over to the police.
The party leaders cut short the procession and sent away Kumaraswamy safely to Sakleshpur in another vehicle.
After recovering from the incident, JD(S) workers accused local BJP leaders of being responsible for the incident. They indulged in verbal duel with supporters of BJP candidate, Narve Somashekhar. The BJP workers stood their ground and charged JD(S) workers of igniting the explosion. Sensing that the situation was going out of control, police personnel intervened and pacified the agitated workers.
When a fan of Kumaraswamy burnt firecrackers, a miscreant who had explosives used to detonate boudlers in his bag, poured some of the material on the crackers, as a result of which a huge explosion had happened.
