Lesser seats, but Congress polled 2% more votes than BJP in Karnataka

New Delhi, May 16 (IANS): Even as the Congress bagged 26 seats less than the BJP in the Karnataka election, the party polled about two per cent more votes, reflecting that its vote conversion rate was less than its rival.

From my school days if my overall percentage is more better the ranks.
But when we analyse the BJP's percentage with number of seats secured there is huge decerepecises.

The fact that the BJP has won a majority on its own in the 16th Lok Sabha has, inevitably, drawn comparisons with previous elections in which parties have won a majority of seats on their own. What has not quite figured in most of these comparisons is the fact that no party has ever before won more than half the seats with a vote share of just 31%. Indeed, the previous lowest vote share for a single-party majority was in 1967, when the Congress won 283 out of 520 seats with 40.8% of the total valid votes polled.
BJP's 31% lowest vote share of any party to win majority.
This is something our reputed International and national investigative journalist need to detail investigate.
But BJP is the only party which can get ranks with minimum percentage. Forget about schooling when they can get fake degrees.

I feel the seats won by BJP are too less considering the fact that -
All State CM's of BJP including PM canvased in each and every village of Karnataka
They would have crossed easily 150 mark with more than 50% vote share
But Surprisingly congress got more percentage vote share than BJP
Is it because.....percentage wise more people are satisfied and happy with Congress??

It is shocking that a development oriented government of Siddaramaiah was voted out. Purely cash, caste and communal affiliations have played a vital role in the verdict. It will take a long way for Indian democracy to mature when people can rise above such narrow parochial thoughts and vote candidates on merit and performance. God Save Us.

Voteshare % is a deceptive and convenient statistic which has no relevance in parliamentary democracy where only % of seats count. This deliberately highlighted to set a narrative that congress got more popular vote. Population of the all the constituencies where BJP won amounts to 69% of Karnataka population - though only adults can vote to decide their representatives. If this statistic is used, BJP can claim they represent majority of the population even though they have less than 50% of the seats. I think the debate should restrict to acceptable statistic in parliamentary democracy and not give any credence to irrelevant statistic.

BJP got the simple majority just falling short by few seats only. They may be able to form the government and pass the confidence motion with the help of some cross votes, boycotts, dissidents.....
However, Cong-JDS combination also may be able to form the Govt. (Personally I do not mind anybody forming the government). It is not like too many parties with small number of seats coming together to oust the majority party. It is only combination between 3 parties. Any combination should be ok.

Dear Avani…. fully agree with you on your thought…. But whomever comes to power….they should not try to please any particular community, religion or sect, etc…. Instead they should try to solve the basis infrastructure problem….try to create more & more employment opportunity by implementing various projects which is beneficial to entire nation….

Unlike CONGiss did in last 5 years….they full filled so many promises…but not even a single “Bhagya” benefited to all irrespective of their cast or religion or minority status… This is what happened in Gujarat too facing “Patidar” fury against BJP there just because one such brilliant girl even after securing 93% total marks fails to get medical seat just because that seat was allocated to OBC & minority students with 80% marks

Stand by no of seats you won !
From 122 (2013) to 78 (2018) Lost 44 seats in others favour and still boasting in terms of percentage victory. Rather accept your humiliating defeat and work out a strategy how to improve and show your strength in coming LS elections.

They should make sure EVM machine should print a slip soon after pressing the button and this slip should be deposited in a box there it self. If any candidate has any doubt on EVM result, then they can mutually count the slips. Even in advanced countries this system is followed, then why not in India? Why only EVM results are considered as final, after all they are machines. Some of the candidates lost in KA19 & KA20 its impossible.
