Bengaluru: Congress hails SC order for early floor test in Karnataka, slams governor

Bengaluru, May 18 (IANS): The Congress on Friday hailed the Supreme Court's directive to hold an early floor test in Karnataka Assembly on Saturday instead of the 15 days granted to Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa by Governor Vajubhai R. Vala.

"The Supreme Court has saved democracy by advancing the floor test to Saturday from the 15 days the Governor gave to Yeddyurappa to prove that the BJP has the majority for its government to continue," Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad told reporters here.

Slamming the Karnataka Governor for inviting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to form government, Azad said it was surprising that the Congress and the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S), which together have the support of 117 legislators, were not invited instead.

In the May 12 Assembly election in 222 constituencies, the BJP won 104 seats, the Congress 78 and the JD-S 37, with the latter two forming a post-poll alliance.

As JD-S state President H.D. Kumaraswamy won from both Channapatna and Ramanagara assembly segments, the party effectively has 37 votes, including one vote from its Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) ally.

Two Independents were also supporting the Congress and the JD-S, Azad claimed. "Never in the history has any Governor given two weeks time to prove majority," Azad said.

Congress leader and former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah attacked the Governor for his "unconstitutional" decision of allowing Yeddyurappa to form the government.

"The Governor asking the BJP which has won only 104 seats to form the government shows that he has colluded with the party and its leaders," Siddaramaiah said.

The Congress leaders displayed confidence that the party's and JD-S legislators would support them during the floor test on Saturday at 4 p.m.

The apex court's decision came a day after Yeddyurappa was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the southern state.

Karnataka ruling: Two cheers for the Supreme Court, not three.

. Should the apex court have first set aside the appointment of BS Yeddyurappa and then ordered the floor test?
    2. So, has the Supreme Court saved our democracy and upheld the Constitution?
    3. It should have been easy for the Supreme Court to set aside the appointment before ordering the floor test. That would have been the right thing to do. How can an illegally appointed Chief Minister continue in office ?
    4. The apex court should have asked Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi unusual request for a secret ballot?
    5. When the Supreme Court knew that the numbers falls short of the BJP's list to form the government, the court should have questioned the anti defection law to the BJP to prevent 'horse trading.
The order to hold the floor test tomorrow and setting aside the Governor’s nomination of a member of the Anglo-Indian community etc. has been so unexpected that people have reacted with huge relief and even elation. The good point is that it seems to have restored the people’s faith in the Constitution.
This midnight drama would have been averted by the court if the constitution values are properly followed by the Governor and questioned the Attorney General for unanswered questions in detail.

Did Yeddy fall prey to Amit Shah's hidden agenda?

It is learnt the Amit Shah heart of heart does not want Yeddy to be CM of Karnataka. However, due to unavoidable circumstances he is projected as the face of CM. Shah knows very well that they will find difficult to muster the required numbers for floor test. Without giving any time for Yeddy to think, he has forced him to take oath. Most likely he will remain a CM of one day. Shah will use this fiasco of Yeddy to remove him from future aspirant of CM chair.

Modi and RSS are trying to place their own judges in Supreme court. Supreme court until now has protected Indian democracy but if he is in power any longer, he will have his puppets in Supreme court and they are already talking of Indian constitution .

if Karnataka Governor had sacrificed constitution for Modi i doubt even Election commission tooooo has sacrificed constitution for Modi by manipulating EVM machines. 101% Indian citizen can say EVM machines which are used in all Elections are manipulated. definitely 50% EVM machines are manipulated .

If 100% of all EVM machines are manipulated then everyone get doubt on MODI so he has given order say roughly 50% of EVM machines to manipulate.

wake up India before its too late.
