Personnel of Central Industrial Security Force, who found that ganja hidden inside pumpkins was being transported by the passenger, took him into custody. The incident happened on the evening of Friday May 18.
During the scrutiny of luggage, the security men found that ganja was hidden in three pumpkins which were kept inside the luggage. The accused, Tasleem Kalayi from Kalayi was to travel to Doha by a flight that was to leave from the international airport here at 5.35 pm. He arrived at the airport sufficiently early. After check in, his luggage was checked at the security gate. The men at the gate got suspicious about three pumpkins the man was carrying with him. When questioned, Tasleem failed to provide any convincing reply. The security men then went ahead to check the pumpkins. A close inspection revealed that the pumpkins had been neatly cut open, inner core was removed from inside them through these holes, and ganja was stuffed into them. Although the holes were carefully carved and deftly sealed in order not to give rise to any suspicion, the men at the gate found out about the foul play.
Sources said that ganja weighing about five kilograms was seized. Customs officials are interrogating the passenger for further action.
