Muscat: MCCP holds annual day, Ajith Walder elected president

Muscat, May 19: The 26th year executive committee of Mangalorean Catholic of the Parish (MCCP), under the leadership of Sunil Furtado, presented the 26th annual day on May 11. Ajith Rajesh Walder was elected the 27th president of MCCP during the annual day.

Ajith Walder is a well-known personality in the community already having served in the MCCP executive committee in different capacities previously. He is an active sports enthusiast as well as a prolific public speaker. Ajith is from Loretto, Bantwal near Mangaluru and has served as a youth president at Loretto parish level. He pursued management in his studies and obtained BBM and MBA degrees. He presently works as a sales manager in Hilti Oman (Bin Salim enterprises LLC). He is married to Naina and blessed with a daughter Renessa.

The 26th annual day began with a thanks-giving solemn Mass at the Sts Peter and Paul Church Ruwi. Fr Marian Miranda was the main celebrant of the mass. The angelic choir was led by Apolinaris D’Souza with member, Philomena Saldanha, Renita D'Souza, Flavia D'Souza, Melita Alva, Dilip Correa, Anitha Lobo, Elizabeth Noronha, Cyril

Danthi, Anitha Danthi, Ida Pinto, Valerian Peris, Wilma Peris and Stany Soares with Naveen Mascarenhas as the co-ordinator. A large number of faithful attended the holy Mass.

The annual general body meeting at Ruwi church parish hall followed the Mass. The meeting was conducted by Clarence Pinto, a member of the core committee of MCCP.

President Sunil Furtado in his address gave a brief of various activities conducted during the year and informed the gathering that all fields of interest of the community were covered during the year with atleast three programmes being conducted in each of cultural, sports, spiritual, educational and charitable areas. He thanked the community leaders, sponsors and members for their support throughout the year for the success of Team-26.

On behalf of the executive committee, internal auditor Vijai D’Cunha presented the annual report for the year 2017-18 highlighting the various activities and noble charitable works done. The honorary treasurer Francis Pinto presented the financial report for the same period. This was followed by the election for the executive committee of MCCP for the year 2018-19 by the members of the core committee along with Fr Marian Miranda. Based on the nominations the team that will shoulder the responsibilities for the 27th year of MCCP are:

This formal event concluded with the outgoing president Sunil Furtado presenting a floral bouquet to the new president Ajith Walder.

This set the stage for the annual day celebration with Wilson Olivera Musical Nite at 5 pm at Le Grande Hall of Al Falaj Hotel. The well decorated venue welcomed the community members who thronged to witness the first ever annual day celebrations being conducted in a massive scale.

The function started with a welcome dance on the song ‘Parameshwara’. It was beautifully choreographed by Dynet Fernandes and Jayal Tharakan and was presented by the young dancers: Christine Danthi, Reia Correa, Calida Machado and Rochelle Correa.

Dilip Correa, an ex-president and a well-known speaker compeered the programme. Fr Marian Miranda, spiritual director of MCCP prayed to the almighty to bless the occasion. Sunil Furtado welcomed Raphael D’Souza, proprietor of Muscat Golden Services LLC as the chief guest of the programme. The chief guest along with the spiritual director, president and the entire executive committee lighted 26 lamps to mark the 26th annual day celebrations. Sunil Furtado in his welcome speech expressed his gratitude to all the members for their support throughout the year and welcomed Wilson Olivera, Ronald Olivera and all the visiting artists of the evening show.

The Wilson Olivera and his team entertained in a brilliant fashion that was never seen in Muscat in the past. The crowd were in a state of dizzy throughout the evening lapping up a heady mix of melodious songs sung by Wilson Olivera, Babitha Pinto, Preema D’Souza, Pradeep Pinto and Vinay Lewis. The entertainment quotient got further increased by superlative dances by local dance groups, comedy skits by ‘Konkan Tharam- Dubai' and humorous compering by Ronald Olivera.

Jane Castelino made a presentation on the activities conducted by Team-26 during the year 2017-18, which was accompanied with power-point slides prepared by Shannon D’Souza. The president then felicitated all the sponsors and supporters with plaque and bouquet. Each member of the executive committee 2017-18 Michael Goveas, Naveen Mascarenhas, Olive Jane Castelino, Francis Pinto, Vijai D’Cunha, Vinod Terence D’Souza, Dynet Fremcitha Fernandes, Philomena Saldanha and Suneel Menezes along with their spouses were also felicitated by the president for their dedicated service to the community throughout the year.

The bonanza draw was conducted by Terence D’Souza, Naveen Mascarenhas, Suneel Menezes and Michel Goveas and gave away the prizes. Then the president honoured all the visiting and local artistes. Wilson Olivera was honoured with a memento and shawl by the core committee members, Stanley Fernandes, Donald Pinto, Clarence Pinto and John Gonsalves. Philomena Saldanha, spiritual secretary read out his achievements and contributions to the Konkani music. The vote of thanks was given by vice-president Naveen Mascarenhas.

This was followed by a dazzling ramp walk performance by Team-26. This was coordinated and directed by Terence D’Souza. At the end of it, the new newly elected executive committee Team-27 was welcomed on stage by Team-26. Ajith Walder, the new president made his maiden speech and exhorted the members to provide continued patronage to his team in the coming year.

The entertainment continued to flow till late in the evening from Wilson Olivera and team. The show ended with a take-away dinner being served to all the persons attending the annual day celebrations.
