Bengaluru, May 20: State president of JD(S), H D Kumaraswamy, late on Saturday May 19 said that he would be taking oath as the new Karnataka chief minister on Wednesday May 23. Earlier in the evening, he had said that he would take charge in ceremony being held at Kanteerava Stadium here on Monday May 21.
Although all preparations have been in place for the swearing-in ceremony, the leaders realized that national president of Congress party, Rahul Gandhi, and other top rung Congress leaders of national stature will not be able to take part in it on account of the death anniversary of former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi. After discussions, Kumaraswamy reportedly agreed to postpone the ceremony to Wednesday, sources stated.
On Wednesday, only Dr G Parameshwar is expected to be sworn in as deputy chief minister, in addition to the chief minister. No other ministers will be sworn in. After the swearing-in, Kumaraswamy will fix date for trust vote. After passing of the confidence motion, other members of the ministry will take oath, as per information. As these processes might take a few days, the legislators nested in hotels have been asked against moving out till then, sources added.
Siddaramaiah will be the president of the coordinating committee of the new government. All important decisions of the new government need to be passed in this committee beforehand. The new government is expected to have Congress and JD(S) ministers in the ratio of 4:3.
