Mangaluru, May 21: Ever since the first school was set up in 1979 and the first college in 1983, Nitte has made a mark for imparting education of a certain standing. Industry specific curriculum, excellent infrastructure, and collaborations with prestigious universities abroad have always been Nitte's hallmarks. With an impressive record of 3 campuses - at Nitte, Mangaluru and Bengaluru, 36 institutions, 130 courses and 4,500 faculties, Nitte is a destination of choice for students from across the country. At any given point in time, there are more than 20,000 students studying in Nitte's colleges.
Beginning with the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences in 1983, Nitte went on to add the College of Dental Sciences in 1985, the NMAM Institute of Technology in 1986, the Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences, the KS Hegde Medical Academy, the Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy, the Nitte Institute of Communication, the Nitte University Centre for Science Education & Research and the Nitte Institute of Architecture.
The Bengaluru campus houses the Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology, Nitte School of Management, Nitte School Architecture, Planning & Design and Nitte School of Fashion Technology & Interior Design, apart from a residential school, 2 pre-university colleges and a first grade college.
Placements
Nitte’s engineering colleges have vibrant placement cells, which not only ensures that students are placed in organizations of their choice, but also readies students for placements from the time they enter the college. Counseling sessions, personality development programmes and training in soft skills is provided to students from the very first year. The student is gently and purposefully guided towards working on his weaknesses and honing his strengths, so that he is placement ready and faces interviews with confidence.
The engineering colleges have an excellent placement record and have some of the best companies from all over the world coming for recruitments.
A strong alumni network and the rapport that the colleges strive to maintain with alumni helps both in securing good internships and also in placements. At Nitte, every attempt is made to ensure that the bond with students remain, long after they have graduated.

State-of-the-art laboratories and fully equipped libraries make it easy for research students to find all the information they need. The Best of Facilities
When it is about infrastructure, Nitte offers nothing but the best. Clean and comfortable hostels, college buses which offer free pick-up and drop from the city, Medicare facilities at the multispecialty K S Hegde Hospital, mentor-mentee programmes and trained counselors on campus. A strict vigil against ragging is maintained in all the campuses.
Sports and extra-curricular activities have always been encouraged at Nitte. The B C Alva sports complex measures 14,000 sq ft and has badminton courts, a basketball court, multi-gym, work-out stations for power lifting and weight lifting and much more. The basketball court at Nitte is of NBA standards and compares with the best in the country.
Social Responsibility
Another feature that is a Nitte hallmark is the emphasis on social responsibility. With 21 rural health centers which provide free medical and dental services to the rural poor, students at the medical college, the dental college and the department of Public Health, get to work at these centers and understand the problems of rural healthcare.
A rural psychiatric centre, the first-of-its-kind in coastal Karnataka, addresses the sensitive issue of mental health and provides counseling, medication and rehabilitation, completely free of cost.
Free denture camps are frequently held and the dental college also conducts free cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries for those who can ill afford it.
Nitte (Deemed to be University) has been ranked 77th by NIRF and awarded A Grade by NAAC. The Nitte Gulabi Shetty Memorial Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences has been ranked 25th by NIRF and the A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences ranks among the top 10 private dental colleges in the country.
