Mangalore, Sep 11: During his visit of the city on Wednesday September 10, primary and secondary education minister Vishwewhara Hegde Kageri visited the zilla panchayat higher  primary school at Panjimogaru in the city, to check complaints that the school is about to part with a portion of its land to a private person. After verifying records, he asked the taluk tahsildar Raju Mogaveera not to snatch away the said land from the school.

The minister was informed that the land in question was being handed over to a person as per the High Court order. After verifying the land records related thereto, the minister asked the department to find out alternative land at any other place from out of unused government property instead of forcing the school to part with its land.

Corporator Shantala informed the minister that the revenue department surveyor had identified the school land to be handed over to the person in tune with the High Court directive, even though the court had asked five cents of unused government land to be given to him.

During Kageri's surprise visit to the local district government printing press here, he found that a person alone, out of the 12 people posted there, was working. The press has several machines like offset printing machine, binding machine, computers, printer besides a huge stock of paper. Several machines are not working, the godown is leaking and staff have no work. As the press has not been functioning since several months, the government is losing heavily and the leakage threatens to spoil stocks worth several lacs of rupees.

The minister informed the accompanying media persons, that he would discuss with the director and take a decision in the matter soon. Mangalore north MLA N Yogish Bhat was with the minister during this visit.
