Bangalore, May 21: The VVPAT carrying boxes found in Managuli village of Basavana Bagewadi taluk do not belong to Vijayapura district nor to Karnataka Election Commission, clarified Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer Sanjiv Kumar in Bengaluru on Monday.
As many as 8 VVPAT carrying cases found in a temporary shed near Managuli village is without machine and paper and without unique Electronic tracking number.
Speaking to reporters, he said: "The Election Commission will initiate strict action against those who are trying to create confusion."
Based on the news aired in a news channel on May 20, the District Commissioner and District Superintendent of Police have personally visited the site and conducted inspection.
The Chief Electoral officer further clarified that no VVPAT machines were found at the spot.
"These boxes found in the shed do not belong to Vijayapura district and 2744 VVPATs allotted to the district are safely kept in the strong room,’’ he clarified.
A FIR is registered at Managuli Police Station and investigation is on.
