Mangaluru, May 22: Today brings back nightmarish memories of the air crash in the international airport here which had happened on May 22, 2010. On that fateful day, an Air India Express flight from Dubai had overshot the runway at 6.05 am in which 158 persons had died.
A total of 166 passengers including 135 adults, 19 children, four babies and six aircraft personnel were travelling by the ill-fated flight.
Several bodies could not be identified as they were mutilated beyond recognition on that day.
At the spot in Thannirbavi where these bodies were mass cremated, a park has come up. On Tuesday morning, a programme of paying tributes to the people who died in the air crash is being held by Dakshina Kannada district administration, officials of the airport and general public at the said spot.
