Bantwal, Jun 23: Mohammed Shariff, named as first accused in the case pertaining to murder of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh activist, Sharath Madiwala, when prohibitory order was in force, was granted conditional bail by the state high court on Friday June 22.

The bench presided over by Justice John Michael D'Cunha, which heard the bail petition moved by Mohammed Shariff, sanctioned bail subject to furnishing of bond for two lac rupees, sureties by two persons, and undertaking not to destroy evidences in the case.

Advocate for the petitioner, B Lathif, arguing the case, said that statements of witnesses were recorded in this case ten days after Madiwala was killed. He also claimed that investigating officials in the case had failed to put together concrete evidence against the accused. The bench, which recorded these statements, ordered release of the accused on bail.

Sharath was about to close his laundry shop at B C Road here on the night of July 4, 2017, when some motor bike-borne miscreants had suddenly attacked him with sharp weapons and fled.

Sharath, who had suffered serious injuries in this attack, had died later in hospital, without responding to treatments. This murder had vitiated atmosphere in Dakshina Kannada district, which had already become volatile due to certain incidents, further.
