Udupi, Jun 29: In an incident which happened at Kambalagadde Bettu in Manuru village near Kota in the taluk on Thursday June 28, a woman died after falling into a rivulet and got washed away.

The deceased has been identified as Saku Marakalthi (57), wife of Veerappa Tolar from Jaddina Mane. At around 2.30 pm, the woman had left her home to collect green fodder for the cattle. As she did not return even by evening, her family members went in search for her. The basket she had taken from the house to collect fodder was found on the bank of the rivulet beside the agricultural fields.

The family members searched the entire bank of the rivulet and fields. After a prolonged search her body was found deposited inside a bush beside the rivulet at Uppuneeru Jeddu, which is located far away from the spot where her basket was found. It is suspected that she could have accidentally slipped while walking by the edge of the rivulet and drowned as the rivulet which was in full force, could have dragged her body away.

A complaint about the incident was registered at Kota police station.
