Puttur: Fire at rubber company - machinery gutted, loss over Rs 80 lac

Puttur, Jun 30: After fire began to rage in the black rubber manufacturing unit of Elite Rubber Company at Kanchana in Golithottu village in the taluk on the night of Thursday June 28, machinery and equipment were gutted. As per an estimate, loss inflicted on the unit is around Rs 80 lac.

Wood cutting, auto controller panel, wood chopper machine, digital scale,  small control board, cooling tower, air compressor, electrical control penal, 5 hp pump, and several other equipments bunt down in the fire. Wiring and cement sheets of the unit also were gutted.

The employees of the company who reported for duty in the morning noticed the fire. By then major damage was done. The employees would have faced grave situation if the fire had started during working hours. Luckily, the flames did not spread to manufacturing unit.

Partner of he rubber company, Shaji U , said that this could either be the result of short electrical circuit or sabotage. He said that complaint against the company had been made to the gram panchayat by some people and that   there is possibility of someone torching the unit out of enmity. He said a police complaint has been filed relating to the incident.

Fire brigade personnel from the town reached the spot by 8.30 am and doused the fire. Uppinangady police sub-inspector, Nandakumar, visited the spot along with staff and registered a case.
