Mangaluru, Oct 28: One more life is lost for suspected H1N1 epidemic in the district of Dakshina Kannada (DK). With this death, the total number of deaths has risen to five in the last one month.
Lalita (72), mother of Umesh Gowda, a resident of Kanyana in Bantwal taluk is the latest victim of the dreaded epidemic. She was admitted to a private hospital in the city due to illness few days ago. She was moved to Wenlock hospital on the night of Friday, October 26. However, she succumbed to the disease on Saturday, October 27. As per the information given by Dr Rajeshwari Devi, medical superintendent, Lalita was suffering from various other diseases also in addition to H1N1.
With the death of Lalita, the total number of deaths due to H1N1 have risen to five in the month of October alone in DK district. In 2017, seven people died due to H1N1 in DK.
Giving more information on H1N1, Dr Ramakrishna Rao, district health officer said, "In total from January 1 to October 25, 2018 39 cases of have reported to be positive for H1N1. However, in the month of October alone 24 cases are reported. However, there is no new addition to this number. I do not have any information with regards to the suspected H1N1 death that is said to have occurred on Saturday, October 27. If there is any addition to the number of cases, the same will be brought to the attention of the public as well as media. Some of the patients who have turned positive for H1N1 have got completely cured and discharged from the hospital. Others are getting treated in various private and government hospitals. In the month of September, 12 cases were reported."
Most cases reported from the city
"In 2018, till date 403 people were tested for H1N1. Out of which 39 cases have turned positive. Out of the 260 people tested in Mangaluru city, 26 were positive, whereas in Bantwal two people out of 32 and in Beltangady one person out of 34 tested positive for the disease. No cases were reported in Puttur and Sullia. No data is available after October 17, 2018," said Dr Ramakrishna Rao.
