Dharwad: 76-yr-old man abandoned by own son on highway dies of cardiac arrest

Daijiworld Media Network - Dharwad (DC)

Dharwad, Oct 29: An elderly man, who was abandoned by his son on a national highway in Dharwad, died of cardiac arrest at an orphanage on Saturday, October 27.

According to a report on TOI, Vincent Christin was abandoned by his son on the Pune-Bengaluru highway. The locals had seen a young man dropping the elderly man on the highway and speeding away. The locals informed the police and the old man was admitted to an orphanage.

He was admitted to the district civil hospital later and the doctors said that he was suffering from Alzheimer's.

On Saturday, Vincent developed chest pain and suffered cardiac arrest, said Dr Giridhar Kuknoor of the hospital adding that the body has been kept at mortuary of the hospital since there is no one to claim it.

Members of some local Christian organizations had contacted Vincent on Saturday and promised that they would help to get in touch with his family members. But before that Vincent died.

    Very sad news.
Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him and be good to your parents. Whether one or both of them reach old age with you, do not say to them a word of annoyance and do not repel them but rather speak to them a noble word. Lower to them the wing of humility for them out of mercy and say: My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up when I was small.

What kind of son would abandon his own father ? better if this same father would have abandoned his son during birth to a orphanage then the son who comes out of age would realize the importance of having a parent. i don't think this son would leave a peaceful life ion future who knows may be his own children will abandon him.

Arman Dubai, thats the worst one could doto own parents, not only not looking after the parent, but leaving him on a road and runaway from spot.I never heard or seen such a heartless person or case.He/they left him as like a animal .felt very very bad.Never mind,Am sure he too has one or none children?one will get it back with same measure.God never closes the eye.old man is not only Azheimer ,but looks like some spots on his arms, which make one think further.must have not fed for long.no drinks ,so dont wonder he got cardiac arrest or something.doctors have no time for poor patients. Now noone reclaims his body.what brings now doing last rites when living time no care is given? Why search his son?give his body for research .poor fellow may his soul rest in peace.Instead of last rites pray for his soul ,a mass to opfer.Hoping he is Catholic.my God how long he didnt get food or care.I feel really so sorry.

Jossie, if you have no medical insurance in USA, the patient's situation is no better than here! Medical costs are 10x than here for similar procedures, rampant malpractice in connivance with drug & cos is going on in full swing there too!!

Except for the cost, the healthcare system is much better in the USA, if not the best. Latest treatment procedures and most of the new drugs are all originating from USA. This is one of the reasons the world premiers and elite class of people (including Sonia Gandhi) come to USA for the treatment. There is no discrimination in emergency treatment - even a homeless can admit to the hospital and get the same treatment. Question of payment will come later.

Alzheimer's is a very debilitating disease with 100% loss of mental faculty; a trained caretaker has to attend to the patient 24/7, but dumping him on the road is very cruel; albeit, a large number of healthy senior citizens are dumped by their own close families after usurping their property and money all over India, more so in the north!!

We should emulate Cuba which has the best healthcare and old age system in the world:
In Cuba, probably close to 90 percent of the elderly live with or close to their families. In fact, if there is any family at all, the family members must be responsible for and take care of their elderly. In Cuba, there is widespread opposition to permanently housing the elderly in retirement homes, something that is only done in extreme cases. Today Cubans are far less likely to suffer malnutrition, malaria or other typical third-world afflictions. Cuba’s health care record is undeniably strong. According to UNICEF, Cuba’s infant mortality rates—at 5.3 deaths per every 1,000 births—are lower than any other country in the Americas, except for Canada. Life expectancy on the island, at nearly 78 years, is on par with our own (America).

The Cuban government operates a national health system and assumes fiscal and administrative responsibility for the health care of all its citizens.[1] There are no private hospitals or clinics as all health services are government-run. The present Minister for Public Health is Roberto Morales Ojeda.[2]

Like the rest of the Cuban economy, Cuban medical care suffered following the end of Soviet subsidies in 1991 and the stepping up of the United States embargo against Cuba at this time also had an effect.[3]

Cuba has historically – both before and during Communist rule – performed better than other countries in the region on infant mortality and life expectancy.[4] Experts say that official statistics by the Castro regime should be treated skeptically.[4][5] In 2016, the World Health Organisation reported the average life expectancy at birth for Cubans as being 77 years for males and 81 for females, which is higher than that of the United States.[6]

When I was around 30 years of age I had a Parsi friend/colleague aged about 35. He was against the institution of marriage.

We used to scare him about his old age. He used to tell us that he will save money and appoint 2 nurses at the age of 60 and pay them well and also give them good benefits so that they look after him.

He will construct his will in such a way that his legacy will be paid to those who look after him during his last days. This was early 1980s. He had planned his life in such a way that he will have a enough savings when he reaches 60. He is in his late 60s and believe me he has followed his plan systematically.

He had lot of real girl friends during his life time. He was very open to his friends never gave them false hopes. He lived a practical life. Marriage is arrangement to meet your emotional biological social and financial needs.

Organise it systematically and leave the rest to GOD. DO NOT DEPEND ON YOUR CHILDREN. NOR GIVE AWAY YOUR SAVINGS OR PROPERTY TO YOUR CHILDREN UNTIL YOU ARE THERE ON THIS EARTH. MORAL OF THE STORY. DO NOT CRY THAT THE WORLD HAS CHANGED. CHANGE IS PERMANENT.

These kinds of facilities depend on geographic structure & population. India in not backward in free medical facilities, best example is newly opened maternity hospital in Udupi. Here the issue is, children's were having deficiency of morality due to parents race of money & pressure of high post jobs. Children's became now money making robots. Its parents responsibility to teach them moral education with religious touch. Teach children's to give handful to others & scarifies the things to see smile on others face. These were happened at the time of parents having 5-6 kids. Now only one kid, they don't know emotion. They only know to take, hunt grab, snatch & finally kill others to fulfill their needs.

When others make mistake, all we become judge & posting our comments against children. But among the commented peoples, how many of you take care of your parents. How many of your parents leaving old age home or they leave alone in home or with care taker. There is lot of circumstances of these kind issues. How you all knows that, the dropped person on road side is his son. Mainly, aged parents were not ready to stay with their children in abroad or cities by leaving their house due to sentimental touch. In this case, let any one advise that, what children should do..?? Either let them stay alone or we have to admit them in old age home or we have to appoint any care taker. Don't blame always children for all, because clap sound will not one from one hand right.

Stop sending our children to English medium schools, stop living style like self centred person; START living like community, where our children, family members used to visit neighbours without any hindrance and people share each others feelings.

Today, our children spend time most of their time on mobile, TV, mass media, Blaming is indirectly accepting our own failures rather act now to live like a community, for our own future.
