Udupi, Nov 1: Public expressed their outrage at the apathy shown towards the Kannada medium students by the education department during the cultural programme organized on account of 'Kannada Rajyotsava' celebrations at Beedinagudde open auditorium near here.

Only the English medium students were given the opportunity to dance in the cultural programme that was held during the celebration of Rajyotsava. The Kannada medium students, who were deprived of the opportunity to show their talent, were haplessly watching the dance of English medium students sitting right in front of the dais. However, it seems the officials of the education department did not pay any attention to the plight of the Kannada medium students.

“Instead of solving the problems faced by Kannada medium school students and encouraging them in cultural activities, the education department officials have tried to appease English medium schools by giving them opportunity to present dance during Kannada Rajyotsava,” opined some Kannada medium teachers.

There is a lack of commitment on the part of all towards Kannada medium schools across the state. The church kannada medium schools which played a key role in the expansion of education to the poor in the coastal belt are struggling to survive thanks to the step motherly attitude of the govt and the local managements..

The Fathers who built kannada schools wanted to educate the rural poor. Now greed for money has resulted in opening english schools. The best brains of today are from the Kannada schools. It is time that we adopt some of the Kannada medium schools and empower the poor.

medium, is just a medium of instruction. unless the govt allows English as a medium, children will suffer. KDA must wake up and let the people decide their fate. unless it wants the people go the line of TN and KL. 40 years ago people were linguidextrous (as written by Ram Guha ). Now apart from curse words they do not know much of another language

Please see in Mangalore how many students go to Kannada medium schools. Except for few of the migrants who have come to Mangalore for job and as they get midday meal , books and school uniform they attend the school. The place where I stay in Mangalore we used to have 50 students per batch and two batches for a standard (say 1st standard.). There were around 700 students studying at a time from 1- 7. Today the same school has 50 students and 3 - 4 teachers. The CBSE english medium school has 4 batches per standard and total strength of students to this school is more than 1000. They pay 30000 per annum and also quarterly fees and other fees. So where the Kannad medium schools are headed is a tragic thing.

If the government would have given high priority to the government schools then the government schools would have performed well in education sector. Just look at the Delhi government schools!!! AAM Admi Party really did miracles in education and health sector at Delhi. Unfortunately media is not highlighting the good works since they are busy with political masala of modi and rahul
