Madrid coach declines to reveal details about winter transfer window strategy

Madrid, Jan 2 (IANS): Real Madrid coach Santiago Solari on Wednesday declined to reveal any details related to the Spanish giants' strategy during the winter transfer window, amid speculation about the future of some of the club's players.

"I have no updates to tell you about the matter," Solari said during a press conference ahead of Madrid's La Liga game against Villarreal, scheduled for Thursday, reports Efe news.

"I am not responsible for talking about the club's signing strategy; it belongs to a private circle," Solari added when asked about the matter.

The coach said all players should keep their commitment to the club, adding: "Isco (Alarcón) is a great player, he has given us joy and he must continue doing so," he added.

Ahead of their first 2019 match, Solari said his team was hungry for titles, adding that Madrid had La Liga, UEFA Champions League and Spanish Cup titles in its sights.

Real Madrid holds the fourth spot in La Liga table with 29 points, eight points adrift of leader Barcelona, a gap that Madrid could narrow to five should it defeat Villarreal in a postponed game due to its successful FIFA Club World Cup campaign.

Madrid is set to take on Ajax in the Champions League round of 16, while it plays Leganes in the Spanish Cup last-16.
