Mexico to meet Chile, Paraguay in friendlies

Mexico City, Jan 4 (IANS): Mexico will play friendlies against Chile and Paraguay in California in March to fine-tune their preparations for the Gold Cup continental tournament.

The clash with Chile in San Diego on March 22 will be followed by a duel with Paraguay in Santa Clara four days later, the Mexican football federation said on Thursday, reports Xinhua news agency.

Mexico are still searching for a head coach to replace Juan Carlos Osorio, who departed in July after last year's World Cup in Russia.

The team has since been led on an interim basis by Brazilian Ricardo Ferretti.

The Gold Cup, the biennial international men's football championship of the North, Central American, and Caribbean football confederation (CONCACAF), will be held in the US, Costa Rica and the Caribbean islands from June 15 to July 7.
