Mangaluru: JCTU holds protest against policies of central government

Mangaluru, Jan 8: Joint Committee of Trade Union (JCTU) staged a protest at DC office in the city on Tuesday, January 8, against repressive policies for workers, implemented by the Narendra Modi-led central government.

Addressing the protestors INTUC district president Manohar Shetty said,"The two-day nation wide strike starts from today. This strike is not only restricted for workers, but also to the general public, beedi workers and youngsters. Narendra Modi has implemented anti-worker policies and is acting like Hitler. Workers have been completely neglected as our 12 demands are neglected without any response. This protest will be a warning to central government and if the demands are not met, they will have to face the consequences in the upcoming elections."



CITU leader Vasanth Acharya said,"For the sake of 1% of people, central government is completely neglecting 99%. They have enforced anti-worker policies which have completely paralysed the workers. Even central government is privitizing the public sectors such as Vijaya Bank and Mangaluru airport. None of the officials are responding to our demands."

Demands like Curbing price hikes, increase in minimum wages to Rs 18,000, law pertaining to worker should not be amended, increase in minimum pension to Rs 3,000, uniformity in salary, providing security to the workers, prirority for job creation, minimum wages for beedi workers should be implemented.
