Puttur, Jan 12: A failed attempt was made to take away a bull from the field opposite Lord Mahalingeshwara temple in the town during late night hours on Wednesday January 9.

A gang of six masked men had tried to force a bull into a waiting black-brown Scorpio vehicle waiting for them. The bull was being forced towards the vehicle by the gang which had tied ropes to the horns of the bull.

Bajrang Dal activists who came to know about the incident, arrived there, but the thieves tried to scare away the young men by pelting stones and flashing their swords. When the beet police reached the spot, the thieves left the bull there and escaped in their vehicle. The Bajrang Dal activists then brought the bull to police station where they tethered it inside the compound.

Bajrang Dal Puttur unit convener, Nitin Ndidpally, said that a gang of cattle thieves having Bajpe as their centre, has been involved with theft of cows from the city and other places in the taluk. He said that slaughterhouses are functioning in the limits of Punjalkatte police station limits. He warned that his organization would launch a strong agitation against the cattle thieves if the government fails to stop the cattle thieves from undertaking such thefts.

Bajrang Dal activists registered a case of attempted cattle theft at the police station here. Police inspector of the town station, Timmappa Naik, promised to probe the case and try to nab the culprits.
