Udupi: KMC Manipal student wins accolades

Udupi, Jan 31: Poorvaprabha Patil, a second year student at Kasturba Medical College Manipal, won accolades at the Indian Health Professional Awards function in Panaji, Goa on Republic Day. She won two of the three awards she was nominated for at the prestigious event. She bagged the ‘Outstanding Medico of the Year’ and ‘Emerging Medical Speaker of The Year’ awards and missed the “Young Medical Achiever of the Year” award.

“The winners were selected from over 400 nominations. The prestigious national level award ceremony was attended by over 200 doctors from within and outside the country,” an excited Poorva said. That was yet another feather in her cap. The ebullient KMC medico has a string of achievements to her credit.

Some of her off campus engagements and achievements are:

HIFA (Healthcare information for all): Co-moderator for an 11,000 member wide global platform working on access to healthcare information. She is only one from India on the 10-member youth committee for Policy and Advocacy working for 53 Commonwealth nations working on launching a women's mentorship programme to empower women across Africa.

She is member of the EB-TO (Executive Board and Team of Officials) of Medical Students Association of India, an organisation comprising over 24,000 Indian medical students. She is also country ambassador (India) of International Journal for Medical Students. She also co-founded an NGO called 'Lumina Vitae' working for the underprivileged in India, primarily on rural health care, at the age of 18.
