Kasaragod: 72-year-old sentenced to 10 years RI for sexually assaulting five-year-old girl

Kasaragod, Feb 2: The additional district sessions court (first) here sentenced Joseph V S alias Tangacchan Scaria (72), a resident of Vadakke Parambath House of Erinjalikodi under Panathadi village limits to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and a fine of Rs 50,000 for sexually assulting a five-year-old girl.

The fine amount needs to be given to the family of the victimized girl. The court has also recommended compensation to the victim from the victim compensation plan of the government.

If the convict fails to pay the fine amount, then he has to undergo two years of additional RI. The Rajapuram police had registered a case against the convict for sexually harassing the girl on June 7, 2014 and earlier also.
